Wild Northerly down at Rye -it must have been blowing 40 knots for a while.

Spotty was last seen going completely nuts!

Headed down to Barwon Heads to meet and sail with some of the Connewarre crew and to check out the speed potential of the Barwon River. As Red says in his post for the Connewarre Crew it was a bit NNE so lots of chunky waves running down the river, combined with incoming tide. So lots of bouncing around, but a fun day and great to hang out with the very welcoming Connewarre Crew, explore a new spot and practice improving my very shakey gybes. With a NNW wind and an outgoing and lowish tide it would be a pretty good speed spot.

Tushy x-15 5.2 with JP super x 96L and Lorch Div S 63L.

A super wild Green Point. Wind started howling as I rigged and the water was turning white. Went out, got the s..t kicked out of me and went home with my tail between my legs. When I looked at the Falkner Beacon graph it had a peak gust of 48 knots.  Yep ,it was windy.

Navi Doppler Data now entered,  Previous Garmin T'Pts'...2sec-40.887,  5x10-37.197, NM-35.905 Navi T'Pts NM-36.01

@ RYE front beach ~9 with building choppy onshore, rig 6.6 only to then rig 5.8 as the Seabreeze alert text came thru with 36knots at Sth Channel.  It was shallow and looked ok for NMs, flattened out the Koncept 5.8 a little for a tighter course and what was to become a blustery 35 gusting 47 knot morning session @ SthCh'Surprised, figure it was less at Rye though as I was still comfortable on the 5.8 all day.

1st run up to Rye Pier and a 37pk RyePB, then a couple of 38s one with a NM from the Tootgarook boat ramp to car park.   Foxy was raving about how flat it seemed off the boat ramp where Shelby was also starting his NM so went back for another attempt.   Got what seemed to be another little squall as I started getting settled in at 35knots only to spinout off some chop.  Pulled it all back together and reached 39, I don't know how, but these little sections leeward of the submerged sandbars were surprisingly quick producing a NM.PB.  Its the chop between the peaks of the sandbars thats makes it really hard to hold it all together. (Kassy23 CA44). 500m 37

Did a pier to pier Rye to Rosebud too absolute killer on the arms! Pretty stoked with PB increases for Rye & at Rye in such conditions.

Good work on your NM Shelby considering you had a bigger sail up! and the reported wind strength at Sth Ch'.

Pics: Heading-up and slowing down approaching Rye pier.

Pinching the sandbar before bearing off, peak speeds nearer to the groin ~37,  looks flatter than it is here but 1.5NM's further back is where the start of the NM is, to the left slightly out of view.  Higher peaks were attained way back, but the chop in between flatter sections had breaking and confused chop.

"Spotty Tailwalk Spray Finish'

37 & flying almost just on the 23 Ka Assy

Rye Gauntlet Run

Rain squall on the way..

Rye pier, Heading east, one of the flat fast sections.

Hey Peter, you are welcome any time,. And not jsut because of the freshly cooked home made muffins. Yumm. Red has assumed the role of our communications manager. PM him and give him your mobile number so you can know when and where we will be sailing. Conna Lake is worth the drive on a Southerly. Cheers Geoff.

Sensational effort to get a 40 peak on the bay Spotty! That is massive !!! Fantastic NM as well.

Kudos to Shelby backing up and great too see the others having  a go.

Unbelievable that at Sandy Pt there was not a breath of wind. And I mean GLASS! At least the clay targets at Foster flew straight which is pretty unusual down here! Laughing

Wow Spotty, Amazing. That has got to be the fastest Bay speed ever!!!!  Green Point was a mess, super windy ( getting flattened on my 5.0) and breaking waves everywhere. Rye sounded like a blast.

Thanks guys,

Izaak its only ~1hr25min from The Tassie ferry at Pt Melb', or~ 2hrs from Sandy Pt.

Choco did you get a sail in? to sail this fast in these parts for me started with sailing b/n Blairgowrie and Rye on a One design with wooden Teak boom, uni, daggerboard and a block of wax! Then a Tiga Jibe, and onto a custom 9'x 19" Strapper speed board when it was all the rage in the late Eighties.  That was my only board for many years and has done many miles chasing down others on the water for practice.

Use to sail Goolwa years ago a few times when I was working in Adelaide, I'm sure you will see the Pit crew over for a weekend for a Claytons, & a Coopers of course!
