Slowboat (49283km):
5099 days ago Great turnout for Peli Pt slalom. Thanks again guys! I've been waiting to try the new EIII 7.0m since I picked it up on Sunday and today was the day. Also up the new Nude 57 slalom board this afternoon, so was on a mission to put it all through its paces. Kind of handy to have a slalom race or 4 to put it to a proper test. I started with a 34cm carbon fin I made on Monday but it was a bit too soft. First run was still a 35.6 on the dial heading off the wind towards kiter land. That was my fastest 10 second run. I changed to the KA32 after that and it was a bit more solid. The wind picked up a bit, and I went for a downwind squirt in the middle of the river to get my peak for the day. Didnt go for any downwind runs after that since I was keen to check out the board in chop.
The slalom races were great fun. Fully lit for the first few. I got a good start on the first one and held that to the end. The other races Peter and Phil stepped up the starting game. Phil got in front of me on the starts and I couldnt catch him. Pete was flying. He was ahead from start to finish on the other races. He had a close call on the first run of the second race when he got lifted- good recovery. I was sure he was going to explode. In the last race I almost didnt make the first mark after trying the downwind line off the start to keep up with the front guys. I was really struggling for angle since the wind backed off, and being downwind and behind really doesnt help. I coasted up to the mark on momentum, pumping like crap to just wobble around the mark and scrape some paint- sorry for anyone who followed me and thought I knew what I was doing Lost a bit of ground there- the front guys were long gone. Jesper got a great start and was right up there heading into the second gybe- until he exploded. I had a good tussle with Rowan until the second gybe wondering why I was spinning out. Aaaaah seaweed. Got rid of that and put the foot on the gas and made some ground, but not enough to catch Peter or Phil.
Fastest alpha was on the outside mark of the first race- easier when theres no wake to deal with . Was hitting 32/33 on the runs back to the carpark in the races. Pretty stoked considering the angles.
All up a great day. Was torn between a speed mission and slalom, but I guess we cant have everything! I have a feeling my new board is going to be an alpha machine...
