Came with the rain and went surfing with the sun, nice day!
But direction was to broad, 280 till 290 degrees so going upwind takes a lot of energy through the big swell, further very gusty but nice to have such a long strip.
Downwind most of the time not enough wind.

In the first run i hit my ribs and they hurt very much, at the end i couldn't waterstart and offcourse my outhaul rope looses so in the big swell (1m) that was not so pritty.

Again an afterwork session

New caspar fin feels really good with this combo. Hoped for more wind. The speeds are ok for these conditions.

There were to many surfers for this small spot. Especially when most people try to go upwind along the stones.

Combination of both tracks.

First session of the day. I was with Sebastiaan @ Zonnemaire waiting for the perfect to come. But unfortunately it wasn’t this day. I rigged 5.4 with 80l but this combo was too small for the wind direction. The 6.2 would be better but I expected a lot more wind. I had some fun but I realized that this spot was not the best choice. 1 nice gust but still not really fast.  After that the wind shift even more to west north west and it wasn’t possible to use the dam for flat water. To do some better speeds I went to Herkingen. See the next posting for that.

@ Herkingen some guys told me that the direction was perfect and that high speeds 80+ were done. I rigged 6.2 and hoped for a perfect session. By the dam I saw already that it was way to crowdie. The wind direction was to square for some good speeds @ that moment. Shit I missed the best part of the day, nevertheless I had some nice runs and hit a few times the 70. I also saw a lot of almost accidents  and it was hard to find some free space in a gust for some good speeds because of all the people at the dam. But after all I’m happy with this surfing day and hat a lot of fun. Thanks Sebastiaan and Stefan for the fun on the water. See you next time.

Great new experience at West Kirby.

High level of speedsurfers from all over the UK, very friendly and helpfull people.

We saw many different conditions for this spot on one day, low wind, very high wind en different angles. Perfect day to discover this new spot for us. Made 25 runs over 80, this must be my record.

Saw some nice crashes today aswell. Hope to come back once again. Steve great that you had 50 knots on your display. We saw you guys accelerating big time when we were leaving. Very impressive. We decided to go as the runs looked very short.

Howie thanks for the good forecast and Darren thanks to call windfinder to order the increasing wind 2 hours earlier before darkness.

Very impressive speeds once more guys !

@ Jacques, how did you manage to pull the incredible Alpha off ? That is almost undoable at Kirby ?

Alpha West Kirby

Did only one attempt for the team. When almost everybody was on the beach waiting for the wind to increase i was sailing upwind and nobody was starting a run.

Managed to start with 25 knots sailing upwind the wall and in the corner i accelerate up to 34 knots in the gybe, the way back was downwind and speeds where 36 knots, this was good enough for an @500 average of 28,27 knots. As you can see there are many ways to get a nice alpha average.

Nice Jacques, was indeed wondering how you'd manage the traffic... Respect, on a hard core speed set!
