kato (37642km): A short sail at Invy in 12-15 wsw which picked up when i packed up. A test day for the brace to protect my toe, which worked for a bit so more mods needed for complete sucess. Tried a run with out it but just too sore. More wind latter in the week to try again. Its going to be a long 3 months Sl52,7.5 koncept,34 Venom
Sailquik (29582km): Nice way to spend Boxing Day with a WSW 15-20 knots at the PiT and some mates to sail with. Today was just what I needed for lots of testing and tuning with the new 6.6m and 5.8m Koncept. I recon I have found some tuning sweet spots now. I have not posted a one hour yet. Had and issue with both GPS's I was wearing. One froze and the other went flat 42 minutes into my best hour run. . I am hoping the one that froze continued to log data. When it goes flat I will try to recover it. It should add a few KM's to my distance as well. When it went flat I finished the hour in the hope the other GPS was still recording and then went home for and hour and charged it up again for a second go. My next best one hour was 19.766 knots but the other one was definitely faster. 21.4 up the point where the data stopped recording. Came back at 6pm for a final 3 hrs only to find everyone packing up and reporting the wind had died out. Took my 6.6m Koncept on the IS111 anyhow and slogged it out in 10-14 knots until it died altogether at about 8pm. It did net me another 43 kms though so it was sort of worth the frustration. Started on IS111, Lessacher 28 Duo 45 degree weed and 2012 KA Koncept 6.6m. Switched to IS87, Lessacher Duo 35 degreed speed weed and 2012 5.8m Koncept for an hour or so and then came back the the IS111/6.6m with KA Slalom/Race 37cm for the last bit. Looking forward to a blast in the easterlies forecast for later in the week!
Peter Johnston (8869km): Nice way to spend boxing day - a lovely bit of hooning up and down Shallow Inlet at Sandy Point with some mates. It was even warm and sunny - better than in Melbourne! Hoped to put in some distance but after only arriving at 10am then pfaffing about getting two rigs ready etc, hit the water by 11am. Not as fit as I should be so was a bit pooped by late afternoon and packed it in. Probably due to lack of speed muffins which I didn't bake due to xmas overindulging. Although I did use up some energy helping Daffy with his "separation anxiety"! - he twice had his rig separate from his board which I retrieved each time. Time to splurge on a new UJ Andrew! The second time was quite spectacular as I looked up the run to see a huge splash and a Daffy-shaped hole in the drink as a result of his rig and board divorcing at about 30knots. Tried to head down to Yanakie for a naughtie but my board kept spinning out. The 23 that I got must have had a gybe in it. The hour was stuffed up with too many dropped gybes - a bit rusty in that department. But otherwise a classic summer day! CA SL55 with C3 Venon 34cm and KA Koncept 7.5m 2011 and JP Slalom 84L with Lessacher 34cm weedie and KA Koncept 5.8m 2011. |
