Lake George, Sa

Or as i like to call it, The golden Lake! it was very windy today and the weed was out of control and the Ka fins just didn't cut the mustard! felt like there was a hand brake on all the time, still not to complain to much, pretty happy, and with some new fins on the way! The water level now is getting pretty average, i reckon if you were real keen there is a couple of weeks left un less something major happens. The walk in and out is CRAZY HARD! once your out you dont want to come in again unless you REALLY have to. This was my last sail on the Tushy's today not a bad way to say good bye new sails should get here next week!!!Cool

THanks again Red for letting me borrow your fin!Wink spewing you weren't thereCry

Good to drive up with Grant and Tony, we only nearly died onceSurprised good going i think!!!

Another big day at Lake George. Left home at 6.00 am with Jaques and Grant and arrived at about 11.30 to find the wind blowing hard.

Went to the Lake and found Hamma and Choco already  had some high 45's on the dial.

They advised us the water level was down and the weed was a problem - UNDERSTATEMENT!!

I took out the XS missile with the 21 Assy fin hoping to get some good peak speeds. Unfortunately this combo was almost impossible to start as the weed was wrapping itself around the board, fin, straps, me and anthing else near it! it was taking nearly 20 mins on average to get it out of the weed and get a run. 11 runs in 4 hrs. Even when getting going there was quite a lot weed on the fin at the end of every run. The Ka 21 assy simply wasn't raked enough and with the water level as it is it's manditory to have a full on weed fin there now..... On to it.... Dont know how many more sailable days the Lake has in it unless it gets water soon.

It was the first time on the 2012 KA Konept 5.8 and it was awesome. We are going to have some good times together. The longer boom feels great off the wind and its nice and powerful in the right places. Half way thru the session, my adjusting pin in the boom came out on one side and the boom was shortening itself on the upwind leg making it way too full and hard work to get back.

Even though the weed monster was trying to kill me all day, it was still a good session. interesting how the weed kept the peaks almost the same as the 100 and 250 m speeds...

Congrats to Hamma for his awesome pb's and for helping me get my gear back to the car.

Plenty of pb's around. Well done to everyone in very trying conditions.

Always great to sail with the Lake George guys.

Gained 4 cuts to my toes and leg from the trailing edge of the fin, one of which probably should have stitches but I'm way too tired and I'll just bandage it.....

Just got in ...12.30 am sleepy....................................

Wow guys, amazing speeds! Congratulations. This lake looks like WR-spot, never seen the water this flat. Also good to see the Aussies back in the GPSSS top-ten yearranking .

Wish you guys would try the Maui Ultra Fins Delta. It's got something like a 55 degree rake, so that might make a difference in the weeds. I just sailed one (albeit a thicker freeride) the last two days and loved it, but I'm just a speed beginner fighting to break 30 knots. I'd love to hear what you think about the fin. They are just starting production, but if you contact the guys in Maui directly, maybe they can help you.

HI Peter,

haven't sail the delta's, unfortunatly 55 degree rake would not cut it for the weed where we are, but  I have some speed weeds coming, they have already done some very impressive results, 47+ Knots, so I'm Pretty sure your delta speed will give you simular results if you push them, good luck mate!

Hi Jacques, I was under the impression that the angle on the MUF Delta's is higher than on any other weed fins. Here's an image:

 MUF Delta

It's definitely higher than on all my other weed fins, so from that alone, it should work better. In addition, they can be much shorter. I'm using a 19 cm to replace a 29 cm regular weed; the speed fins go down to 15 cm. They say the fin has clocked 45 knots, but I could not find any data about it. Anyway, the recent Lake George speeds are so amazing that when I read Tony's description, I had to think of the Delta. Some weed fins, like the Select Speed Weed, have a cutout at the board; the MUF Delta is quite the opposite with it's straight back. I'm curious if that makes any difference in weeds, since some designers seem to think the cutouts help with weeds.

Just coming out of the winter, weeds are not an issue here right now; but in the fall, one of my favorite spots can have a big problem with long sticks floating on top (almost like bamboo), where regular weed fins stop working. I think the MUF Delta will have a good chance due to the better angle and the lower depth.

I think the guy behind the design has quite a bit of credibitity after changing the way wave fins look like, and having Philip Koester win the wave titel with his fins. But maybe I'm biased because he is German like me Innocent.

Peter, interesting fin, a fin with that sort of rake would definatly shed all the weed we have around here and reducing the depth would allow us to sail in some vey flat water, i'm definatly interested, thanksCool
