Xcite Koncept 7.5 Delta then Venom 36

WNW 15 - 20 kts.  Early start.  Great way to start the New Year however wind did not swing to WSW as forecasted.  Gusty as heck so rigged the 7.5 with plenty of downhaul to get me through the lulls.  Worked a treat and as the wind hit 20 kts and gusted a few more the sail was under control.  Skill from the sailor but more from the sail manufacturer I think.  Had some great runs with Ernie and Ant threading the needle out the back and sailing to land on the other side.  Was greeted by Inverloch dignatory the Hon Mr Stingray - quite a large fellow.  To add to this THE IWC Rescue helped out a very injured kiter who was dumped on the beach after a big gust.

Details:  Late start after a New Years at Wornervilla  Hit the water at about 11...wind was too west for any serious speeds but it was good to tune up the 8.5.  Felt a bit overpowered in the gusts but it was nice in the lulls.

Got called off the water by Doug after a kiter seriously injured himself.  Irnically, all the kiters ignored him while all of the IWC members got off the water and help the guy out until an ambulance arrived, some 25 minutes later.  The guy had a few broken bones...nasty stuff.

After the accident the wind built some more but the tide was fully on its way in...decided to pull the pin as I had to be in Melbourne by 6pm.

Nice start to another (windy) year !

Only a few runs in as the tide built up, quite gusty and mostly W winds...

WOWEE !  What a day...

Late start after NYE at our place, so didnt get on the water until lunchtime.  Missed the lowish tide, and it was already quite lumpy by the time I got out on KA Koyote 7.4, Hypersonic 105, Drake 44cm slalom fin.  One or two speed runs in, then the chop hit as the gusts built.  

After helping out an injured kiter, the wind did swing a little more WSW, took a few runs with NP Fusion 5.5 on the Hyper - wasn't much fun...

So finally put the 5.5 on a JP Xcite Ride with 32cm JP Seaweed fin - HAD A BALL !

As the tide went out, the swell built slightly against the wind... managed to get some great air, chop hopping at one point 2-3 feet - and with 2 witnesses !

Stayed out till late.....

Port broad reach at the end of the sand bar, as the tide dropped got my best speeds. Great angle and mable water as the tide dropped.

Worth the effort, but short window before the area becomes too shallow.

Heaps of peoples. Confidence back on, even sailed without helmet (forgot it).

Inverloch, VIC, AU, Starboard S-Type 104Lt, NP RS3 Slalom 5.4, Venom C3 36cm: Day of mixed fortunes. West South West 17 to 20 knots breeze gusting to 27 knots frequently. Started out with the NP RS3 Slalom 6.2 but quickly downsized to the 5.4.

Found the 5.4 just as powerfull but much more sensitive to back foot pressure. Played around with mast base settings finding one finger forward of the insert point to work best. Also tested the same rig with a Select L Weed eliminator (46cm). Found the extra fin area worked well when pointing upwind and felt good cross wind, but felt very loose when on a broad reach. Changed back to the Venom C3 36cm for a more controlled ride as the prevailing wind (W-SW) and the sand bar orientation neccesitated a broad reach for mpst of the outgoing runs.

The combination of wind (more westerly than south Westerly) against the outgoing tide produced significant short sharp chop which made the return runs a handfull. Made the best of the choppy situation to try chop jumping. Limited success. 

Had a few good fast runs towars the end of the day as the tide dropped an the sandbank lilmited the chop formation upwind.

The wind never really dropped and was still blowing a good 17 to 20 knots by the time I ran out of puff. 

Looking forward to better tide, time and wind direction combination for teh next session to get back up to the 30 knot PB posted right at the start.

Still pretty impressed with my "relatively" old kit. Still gives the newer gear a good run for their money.

All in all another good day was had by all.

Thoughts go out to the windusurfer who tried kiteboarding and left the beach with a badly broken fore-arm and injured leg.
