sboardcrazy (25351km): SW - SSE 5-15kts occasional puff to 17kts. NX 7.2m - Xcross 115ltre + 30cms fin. Canton Beach, NSW, AU Arrived at 9.30 and it was dying a bit but I still had a great 1.30hr sail from 10am. Planed 95% of the time. That board still amazes me- you get on the plane and it keeps going through the lulls and you look at the wind and think ' How am I still going?' I've sailed that combo in similar windstrengths 2 x in 3 days..chop off Coal and nice and flat here.Boy what a difference it makes if you can get out regularly with the same gear and conditions!Wish I lived on the lake and could get out everyday I'd be so much fitter and better! I've always found that big sail a heavy cumbersome thing but I did a few strap to strap gybes and threw it around like my 5.8m ..( insert shocked icon- they don't have one..lol's). I decided to try to tack and amazed myself at actually making the 2nd one! 5kts of wind and flat water but I jumped around the front and pushed the nose off..Cripes! Had a ball planing in the flat water generally by myself - comfortably powered - not enough to set records but B good fun! This board has renewed my love of the sport! Turned a bit more SSE at times.I was using the 30cms weedie rather than the usual 38 I use with that combo so the weed wouldn't be a worry and I found I didn't point quite as well. I didn't bear off much - seemed to spend most of my time trying to get into a good possy to bear off in any gust. Fun Fun Fun! Everyone was starting to go out as I had to leave. Hope it came in for you!
Andrew Haigh (50695km): Canton and Coal Point, NSW LRE with 6.7m was just not really enough at Canton. The predicted SW never really eventuated. As I left I was worried that Sue may have turned in better figures than me today (Milsy sugested that I shouldn't post). On arriving home to Lake Macquarie, Tim was out sailing in the same 10-15 kts that we had at Canton. So I rigged up my 7.8 on the Carbon Art 70 and went for a quick blast. I combined the figures from the two sessions but Canton only contributed to the total distance. So quite an interesting day from listening to Milsy's gambling tips and philosophy of life to skimming across Lake Macquarie's clear blue waters which always look so much better after a trip to Canton.
Cluffy (4190km): Marmong Point, NSW, AU Exocet RS formula, Severne R4 9.6 . A bit of formula training after work. The breeze was a fairly shitty S/SE actually. Getting decent upwind angles in a south easterly on lake Maq. is a challenge at the best of times but today was a particularly frustrating breeze. I won't go into boring details but suffice to say the breeze was all over the place. Getting up to coalie was the easy part, getting home was a little bit stressful in the rougher water and some of those big wind shifts were giving me big lifts as well as lots of pressure which made it hard to keep good angles downwind. I love the formula upwind but I still have my heart in my mouth downwind a lot of the time. The only solution I know is, sailing, sailing and more sailing. Overlearning my downwind technique until it is muscle memory and happens on auto pilot. this could take a while lol. I'm really happy with my 2 second result. 24 knots plus on the formula feels pretty quick and the water wasn't exactly smooth. One of the raceboard kiters was out late as well and he was bloody killing it. The practice those guys are putting in is really starting to show. I think they are going to do well in china. Best of luck guys! |
