4050 days ago 1 categories Sandy Point, Stonington, CT. Rigged when averages were mid-30s, gust high 40 (mph). The last forecast I had seen predicted just a small and slow drop in the afternoon. So the Koncept 5.0 seemed right for the wind. Started at noon, sailed upwind 1200 m to the sandbar, got there in 15 minutes. Then the wind dropped to below 20! It picked up a bit again 30 minutes later, gusting into low 30s. Got just a few barely powered runs in; caught one lucky gust just at the right time in flat water for the 2 sec top speed.
The spot has a lot of potential - 35 knots (and 40 knots for Dean) seem within reach at high tide if the wind is right. But Connecticut winds are notoriously unreliable.
A tad disappointed after 4 1/2 hours of driving, but it was great to sail a new spot in a short-sleeved 3 mm wetsuit. Temperatures this morning were close to 20 C
