Sailquik (29582km): Great way to start the 2014 year! Nice Sandy Point day with just the right angle for the first few runs. Then going a bit to south. I underestimated the wind so rigged my 2014 5.4m KA Koncept. Then I saw a squall come though and nearly rigged my 5.0m Koncept. I am glad I didn't becasue the 5.4m worked out perfectly. This sail is a huge leap forward on the speed course and felt really light and stable with fantastic control. On the first run I thought I might have got to 40knots about halfway down. I glanced at the GPS and saw 44 knots. Had to look again because it seemd too easy. 45Kt peak on the first run! A couple of runs later I snagged a squall and was almost fully powered with a 46.34Kt peak! Yeeehaaa! I kept trying for another 44kt run to get the 44 knot average but the wind went a bit more south, the tide was coming in fast and I was really stuffed from walking back 1km after every run. I tried sailing back but could not make much headway with such a small fin and it was even more tiring. This is right up there with my best speed days and it was not all that windy for here! Guestimate 25-30 knots most of the time but probably 35 in the best squall. 2014 KA Koncept 5.4m sail Carbon Art CA40 Board Tribal 16.5cm assy fin (Lockwood design) The fin worked great! I wondered if it would be a bit too small but I never had a 'moment' even in the rougher chop on the first run! It is a but small to get back upwind quickly though so I walked it most runs.
