It was really nice to snag a decent southeaster this afternoon. It’s amazing how quickly people can get to the beach when there is a sniff of wind after a dry-spell.
The water was pretty flat due the sudden rise in the wind so we had some good blasting conditions. Queens Beach standards were cranked way up today with both Haggar and Ulf handing out the floggings. Hags smashed through the 28 knot barrier like Chuck Yeager in the Bell X-1 over the Mojave Desert back in ’47.
Hit a big, fat, Eagle Ray today. It jumped out of the water to leeward and dived right under the nose of my board, instantly colliding with the fin. The impact was sudden and severe, initiating a catastrophic face-plant. Somehow the fin stayed on this time, but I am pretty sure the ray is a gonner. I'm some sort of one-man environmental disaster.

Real surprise, took a drive out to wello half expecting there to be no wind and managed to get a good hour session. First sail since feb - everything is right with the world again :)
