Hard core day, after an early start and 35km bike ride this morning, there wasn't a lot in the tank. Started top of the tide with 5.9 and old 85L Naish freeride in washing machine conditions at the top of the tide. Plenty of airtime to be had. Wind had a few holes so changed up to the Carbon Art 90 and Weedspeed. Initially a bit hairy with big wave faces all over, plus nasty chop to drive the nose into. Shifted the track back and the board was transformed, could sail off the tail and float over the chop on the big bearaways. An open water 30 was there for the taking if hanging around till the tide dropped. Too buggered though.

After carting the gear 2000 km on the car roof as far as Cooktown, getting skunked for wind at Green Is, finally got home for a typically sloppy Mackay sail. Nice to catch up with Fred and Billy in Cairns anyway.
Naish SP 95, KA Koncept 5.8, squally 20-25 kn and lumpy as, should have cracked out the wave gear for a play instead. Anyway good to get wet.

Late update. Looking for some one on one time with my eldest son, who was keen to drop his canoe in the water, we headed up to Tinaroo for the day. Got word from Hans, via Freddy that the weather was none to pleasant - cold, wet and blowin a gale. Decided to press on regardless. Surpise, surprise, on arrival, the temp had droppped to 18c, wild squalls ripping across the water - one minute it was 25knts, the next, nothing. At times it was a complete white out and spray being ripped up of the top of the chop.
Decided to move around near the dam wall where it was a bit more protected as the young fella wanted to flick a few lures. After an hour and countless braid tangles, we both decided to head back to the sailing club. Weather appeared to have cleared up somewhat with blue sky even making a brief appearance so we decided to just have a crack, regardless. Got him all sorted on the 129 Screamer and 5.4 North Natural and he headed out to give his up hauling technique a work out.
Mean while, I finally made it out on my 104 Screamer and 6.5 T4. A huge amount of ESE in the wind and depending where you were situated on the water made it quite difficult to work out the actual direction you should be travelling in. Huge changes in wind speed and consistency. One moment your hanging on for dear life in a plausable 25knt bullet and 10-15 seconds later, you've run out of wind and are laying in the water waiting for the next squall.
Must say, the water temp was very pleasant. Young fella had a great morning and hopefully will continue the journey. As a parent, it was a very sobering day and one we dont take enough time to enjoy to often.
Only managed a short 10k's and was well and truly knackered at the end. Both drove away with a smile.
