3249 days ago 1 categories Some gone to Manor but Swainey said he was returning to Dip so I joined him, Roger, Strawb and later Phil at Dip. Lots of rolling surf, Strawb just about planed out on 5m then planed well further out so rigged 96l/6m. Sea was great with smooth rollers. I joined Strawb further out where it was windier but sea not so nice so returned inshore where there were endless smooth rollers great to ride and gybe in smooth water between rollers. OK powered on 6m then wind dropped around 1pm. Came back for a short while and had a few more runs. Bit tricky getting going close inshore as river current with wind, and after yesterday learnt to get out beyond groyne. Over at Golf could gybe in rollers or get close to spit where it was flat. off Dip it was smooth rollers with good space to gybe. Got one decent jump in. Best sea for ages. 5* After packing up visited Manor where all had gone home. Sea looked messy but less of a shoreline wind shadow with onshore breeze.

3249 days ago After yesterdays 5 star session and it was down to Earth with a bump today :( With the wind sse today a bit more side shore so you could chose between The Dip and The Manor and I joined Neil and Craig Hurrell where I sailed yesterday at The Manor. They were both out with 5.7 and 6m with Andy Marshall rigging a 5m but it didn't look windy enough for my 5.6 so went with my 6.5. I tried my 100 lt cross for the first run which wasn't great as the wind was up and down and it wasn't easy getting off the beach as there was a large shorebreak:( also the sea was a mess although there was some ok swells towards the pier. Going fast was a non starterin the big sea and sailing underpowdered on a small board is just knackering for me and after sailing three days in a row I was tired :( Craig tried 2/3 boards before finding the right combination while got it right with an old 100lt Mistral Screamer and 5.7, I had a few runs with my 133 which was better and after one ok run to The Fludgers I called it a day. Wave sailing on smaller kit is not for me, I am more of a slalom sailer and just need to go fast! perhaps I should persevere with smaller kit and enjoy the swells? Had a look at The Dip and the sea looked loads better towards the River Deben but there was only a couple of windsurfers out but they looked way underpowdered, theonly one really making the most of the conditions was a kitesurfer out on a surfboard really working the waves - thats the way to go for sure!
