Mackay, QLD, AU

Interesting morning, only had tide until 11am, so hit the beach at 9, but wind really hadn't figured out what it was doing. Extremely choppy and gusty to begin with, rigged 6.5 Ezzy, 84L Naish Supercross, 30cm BP FSW fin. A bit unbalanced and prone to sinking in the lulls to begin with, but a few adjustments and the holes filling in, it ended up being a suyrprisingly good fun B&J session. As the water flattened, out came the CA95 and weedspeed fin, bellied out the sail and switched to speed mode. Couldn't crack the 30 as hoped, the breeze was only strong out wide where there was still wall to wall ugly chop.

Great start to the weekend. More tomorrow.

Green Island, QLD, AU/Arlington reef .Wind SE-SSE 18-24 knots .Gear Xfire 90 E9 6.4 Tribal SW 27.

Great morning session on Arlington -its been almost 2yrs since the last sail on this stunning reef . Wind was patchy this morning & again tide retreating quickly so we had enough time for 6-7 NM attempts.

Ride over was horrible -a squall came thru followed by a lull so moments of sheer terror in 2m seas followed by a grovel fest.Always good  to arrive at Arlington in tact...!!!Sealed

Water conditions got better & better but windwas shifty & had some big holes in it .Great fun but always hoping to do better so unfinished business .Another session after lunch so morelater...Cool

More wind after lunch so great afternoon session on the island -stoked to get a 40 on the new Xfire ...!!!Smile

Lake Tinaroo, QLD, AU

Quick trip up the mountain the keep our new lad Ben company. Whilst he decided to play over near the upper reaches of Fong On Bay !!!, I just tried to stay ahead of a few squall's created in front of incoming storm clouds in the main channel area. Water temp was fantastic, wind temp was pretty chilly.

Used 125 AHD Diamond, 49 S10, 7.5 T4 - it was what it was ..........

A good mornings mission to Arlington reef. A bit of a light crossing from green which didn't bother us as we were positive the wind Was picking up throughout the morning. Got to the reef and started some long Runs down the reef. Water was beautiful and smooth. Returning to island was a bit average due to some bashing, but once arriving to the island to see the most epic Greens and blues sourounding the island through the sunnies made it all ok! We will see how the afternoon session goes!! Afternoon session gave some stronger winds. As usual playing truth or dare with the reef as the tide rises And the time to catch afternoon boat decreases. What an afternoon 🤙🤙🤙🤙

Port Douglas, QLD, AU

A very windy afternoon.  Very nice to meet Chris and Kay from Mareeba.  For a man who sails two or three times a year he is a very accomplished sailor - hopefully we can get him out more often - and maybe even stick a GPS on him.  A very windy afternoon - Sim and Tristan and Ian and I'm pretty sure James as well will be sailing here at Port tomorrow afternoon from about 1pm - between 3pm and 5pm the wind lifted up to 25knots - I initially rigged my Gator 6m and went out and there was not enough wind to get going - so I went in and rigged my 7.2m - about 30 minutes after getting back on the water - well that was when the wind went psycho - I would have been better off with the 6 metre - thinking of a 6.6 metre twin cam sail maybe.... The cop whipped up as well.  Ed had a pretty poor session - only got about 56 kms today.  He was lit up and overpowered on his 97 isonic with the 6.6 North.  Hopefully I can get a better sail tomorrow - the wind might be a little less - but the sun was out and it was great to be out on the ocean.Cool

Port Douglas, QLD, AU Got 2hrs on the water this arvo with Craig and Andrew. Was powered up the whole time on 6.6m North Rig and 97lt Isonic..Wind was 17 to well over 20kts for the last part of the session..Didn't do a pit stop..'Big mistake'.. so  started to run out of fuel ..Felt like i had done more km than i did..Water was as rough as it gets in this neighbourhood ,real hard chop in close and steep angary waves out the back which is realy good fun but a bit hard on gear ,board took a real beating the whole time but never put a foot wrong all arvo.. Found  more stress cracks in deck when packing up so back to the man cave for more repairs, not sure if this board is gunna make it to the end of the season,Andrew had a good blast and did well hanging on to a big rig.. he also  dropped of a wounded Isonic for some repairs think it got trashed a couple of sessions ago..Craig hasn't sailed for ages but had a ball and ended up on his wave board with a small rig for the second half of the session was good to see him on the water again.. We all pulled up shagged but happy just on sundown..All in the name of fun..Cheers Ed..

Cam & Locky - not much to say really....another great effort. Well done on the NM PB Locky and Cam, any day one can crack 40 is indeed a welcome distraction. Congrats on your efforts lads.

Trojan - impecable timing mate. I was only discussing with me old mate Fred Burke, Friday arvo, that we hadnt heard from you. Please pass on our regards to Gil.

Kel - all I have is...."it is what it is" !!!! You sailed H'way's and I sailed Tinaroo. I'd say we are square Tongue out

Well done with the 40 Camakaze Cool Great to see you both back on Arlinton Reef, I don't think there is anywhere/anyone else in Aus that sail roughly 6+km from a small island out to a reef in the middle of f'n no where to speed sail, nice one Cool

Afternoon Sail at the Dam with Billy.  Some more rookie mistakes were had for sure!!! -

1.  Didn't sail "as the crow flies"....

2.  Didn't turn off the damn GPS watch until I realised when driving down the exit road, bloody wally... (top speed OTW 19.2kn)

Did get in a few nice controlled planing runs though which really made it all worthwhile.  One of my mentors told me the feeling you get when locked in and planing is "better than sex!" - I think I need some more practice...  That being said, I am definately keen for PD tomorrow!

Ben, welcome to GPS Challenge. FYI, send your file to Kel. He will be able to seperate the driving from the sailing, giving you a file that can be posted.

Ed and Andrew - more Port D shenanigan's i see. The repair business is booming !!! Great to see the team up there pushing the limits and if the Mountain Men get involved, look out Wink.

Thanks guys ...

2017 gear smokes-cant wait to get it fully dialled in .

Well done to Lach on another PB-3rd this year ...!!

Arlington Reef should be on all windsurfers bucket list ...Cool

The crossing is easiest when there's more East in the wind but then the NM run doesnt work -angles are wrong/gets too chopped up.

Sailing overpowered with a lot of South in the wind is Very intimidating in the open channel as the swell gets horribly confused - but doable if you stay focussed on the end goal .

The other challenge is negotiating the waves at entry point to the reef-after 2-3 days of strong winds the swell can form waves 1-2 m high which you must negotiate to make it to the RUN.

Similar issues on the way out with the added bonus of less water ...(we usually sail an outgoing tide)

Risky -yes ,fitness needed-yes ,rewarding -YES .  Hoping to take Hardie for a special tour when he visits in July ...Smile

Locky, Dr Cam, what an amazing session. I don't think I'd enjoy the ocean crossing, especially with the squalls and swims you experienced.
