La Franqui, France

PD Speed 53, Loft Speed Blade 6.3, mXr UFO Wide Base 22

First time sailing at La Franqui. Square wind, not so strong and somewhat gusty. 20 kt gusting to 30. There were some shallow spots, so I figured better play it safe and put in wide base fin. 53 cm board was fun and worked fine but I wished for a smaller board. Guys with 44cm boards were pulling 44 knots top speeds. 6.3 sail was about right, maybe 7.0 with this board would have been better choice??? Just couldn't find the room to fit a smaller board, Defi Wind gear was more important for this trip. I can already see dedicated trips to La Franqui in my future plans. This place must be huge fun when conditions are just right.

NM 36.213 was just too easy even in these low wind, gusty and square coditions. I only did two NM attempts and decided this is just not the day for it.

Good to see you got a session in on your trip, shame the wind didn't blow for the event. Hopefully next year will be better. I plan on doing it then.

Quite amazing what speeds you got in "not so strong and somewhat gusty" wind! Congrats on the PB. That session puts you on the #1 spot for 5 of the 6 disciplines for the year in the US ranking, and on the #9 spot internationally for NM for 2017  Next time, you should bring Denis along (and pick a period with more wind Smile).

I think I can see now why Hans and Jacques go to La Franqui just about every month!

Thank you, but really, 36 knots NM at La Franqui felt as easy as 27-28 elsewhere. I think 40+ may be a bit of a challange.

That's pretty good NM, congrats Boris. It definitely will be hard to beat around here, if at all possible.

A 30 knot NM anywhere in the USA is hard to achieve, we just don't have the flat water like La Franqui. Washoe Lake seems to be the best location with the offshore winds and Hatteras second best. In the Gorge we are powering through 2-3 feet chop at best with a jibe as the river is narrow.

Yeah, I guess I have to start exploring West side of Washoe and wait for NW winds to be able to go along the shore. All our previous NM best (at least mine) were achieved by going downwind across the lake which is not so flat in the middle.
