Ado (4489km): Lake George, SA, AU
Final day was the goods. Went straight for a huge downwinder and scored the fastest run of the day.
Quick NM too!
So good catching up with all the Keen Krew. | ||||||||||||||||||
Sailquik (29582km): lake George, SA Lots of big grinning faces today on the Lake. Fun, Fun, Fun! Water level down another 10cm with the wind so the weed was up on the top over fairly large areas. There were even foambergs here and there. This was the first time at LG I have struggled to start in the weed where it was right to the surface with my 40 degree fin. Easy though, where there were a few inches of water over it. It just ment gybing in the really glassy stuff had to be done smoothlly and with LOT's of speed. And don't stop in that stuff! I'm tempted to try a superweedy tomorrow to see if I have more options to explore. Lots of sailors commented on feeling like they were missing some top speed in the gusts. I think the consenses is that the weed IS actually giving us a bit of drag, at least where it is really thick new growth. Thats my excuse anyhow, and I'm sticking with it! I did a NM early in the session before I got too tired to get all the way upwind, but it was all the way in a lull. So I went back later in the day for another try and I am very chuffed with the result. I rigged my 5m as well, thinking the wind could get to a solid 30, but that didnt happen so I stayed on the 5.4m all session. The wind was a solid 25K with gusts to around 30, but they were pretty brief and hard to catch. This SSE wind is much more gusty than the Thermal SE winds we had a few years ago, but the forecast is for a little more SE in the coming days so it will be interesting to see if that changes. I think I am starting to build a bit of sailing fitness so I might be ready for a 1hr attempt in, oh, a few weeks. Same for a distance day. That is not even in my thinking for quite a while. Great to see everyone absolutely flying (actually skimming would be a better word) today! It was great to have Ado and Mal here for the team! Lake level today at the start of my session -0.171. I forgot to go back and measure at the end but I am guessing it could have dropped another couple of cm or so. Carbon Art 40 speed, Fin 18cm, KA Koncept 5.4m, GW52. |
