Sailquik (29582km): Sandy Point, Vic. Fun summer day. When I arrived it looked like there was 16-20 SW knots as per the Yanakie AWS, so I took a chance and rigged 6.2 and IS87. WRONG! As soon as I hit the water it died to 12-13 knots. So after a bit of a 'stand around chatting on the beach' with lots of other skunked sailors, I decided to try the Gemini Tandel as a one up. Sice I already had the 6.2m rigged I just took that. Was pleasantly surprsed at how well it works to cruise around. I spotted young 13 YO Lachie on the beach and invited him to plug his sail in (3.5m) and sail with me. We had a great time plowing up and down and planing most of the time. 10 out of 10 for Keen! . Lots of tacks and Gybes and no spills. Aftee that I decided the wind was still much the same around the 12-14 mark so I rigged my old 9m Koncept and plugged it into the GO 170. Had a nice cruise around the inlet and down to the entrance and back, but the wind was filling in a bit and as I came back I was a bit on the edge. Bt now a few were changing down to 6.5's and 7's, but I was a bit stuffed by then so packed up and left, I probably started my run a bit early and missed the best conditions at the end. Spotty (8858km): LOC Marathon Ledge Point, to Lancelin WA, AU. Pre race runs on KaRace 7.1 137L,46Tribal PwrMax fin felt underdone a bit off the wind so went with the 8.7 as thats my next size up. Started on front line posn10 between Bastien to winward and Mateo leeward, sail flapped as I planted the board on the water lost a bit there but had clear wind and the 8.7 got us away ok. Hauled some scalps in on first leg only to have the chopper in the way where I wanted to bear off deep past first mark and went upwind around it only to then fluff gybe feeling fatigued as was a bit stacked on 8.7. Was 11th to 1st mark pitty body was subjected to too much sail, the 46 fin was no problem and held things steady in the chop. Trimed outhaul in a bit to help and had good speed but harness was riding up a bit and arms began to cop it more. To cut a long story short fell in on all gybes but one, had good speed with best 10sec of 30 just needed a 7.8 and would of been sorted and able to finish inside top 20. Finished 31st overall / 12th Elite with poor finish dismount due to clipping end of cray boat mooring line as I came in and decided to abandon ship early and stagger to the finish gate.
