kato (37642km): Area 45, Mahers Landing, VIC, AU I FOUND MY GROOVE Started out at Inverloch at the insistance of some of the S Busters. Dodgy call in an easterly but I gave it a go.....It was crap, wind was bouncing off the headland and the runs were very short. I gave up and headed to Area 45. Rigged the same combo as before and didn't put in a speed fin as allthough the banks were out the tide was racing in. Man it was good !!! Time to get some fitness into my legs before Lake George. Very rusty jibes at the start but found the groove and went for a 1 hr. Great fun and should have put in the speed fin as there was enough wind for some 38kt runs. Banks went and the beers were calling. Fun arvo session. Much better than fighting the local bushfire, evently i'm not recovered enough from my injury Sl52, Koncept 6.6, Venom 30
Bradman (3365km): Sandridge Beach Port Melbourne, VIC, AU Wind SSE 15-25kts. Windy with swell. Sailed from 3-4pm in the strengthening seabreeze. SB147, SB foil GT-R carbon, SV Blade 5.3m
Sailquik (29582km): The Golden Lake, SA. Well, Jamie was right all along. The water is too high for top speed runs in the Middle Lake. There are small patches of flat, but a lot of 'just a bit too rough to feel safe'. I started at the 5mile and was about to rif the 6.2m when I had another look and changed my mind to the 5.7m. Halfway though rigging I said to Andrew H 'I recon by the time I have finished this I will need the 5.2m'. Well, I wasn't far off. Actually, the sail was fine but the speeds over the rough water on the JP70L slalom board were not. After one run I came in and switched to the CA40 and cranked on a few mm more downhaul. This was just right but the speed runs from the Gap to the 5 mile were a bit on edge over the small chop. I managed a couple of 37's and a 38 peak, but I decided that if I kept pushing, and I knew I would, I would probably spin out and hurt myself. I had seen Jimbob and a few others go down the the spit, so I packed up and joined them. Right Move! Flat water next to the spit and strong wind. mid to high 20's with gusts just over 30kts. Whooohooo! Ths time I rigged the 5.2m. It was spot on. On the first run I did a bearaway from the spit on a gust and it felt really quick. But as I got into the bigger chop, the fin let go and I had a high speed side slide for 50M before I realied I wasnt getting it back so I unhooked and bailed out. 41. 9 peakon the dial! Then the wind seemed to kick in more consistent and I got another couple of 41's and some 40's, but I was sruggling to get much over 38 - 10's as the run was short if you went away from the bank. I got one low 39 - 10 sec which felt faster than it was! After a while wind seemed to ease slightly so I called it a day. No sense in wreaking myself on the first day here. That was just pure unadulterated FUN! And just made better by the meeting of lots of like minded friends again. The 2019 5.2m Koncept worked fantasticly well. 17cm 40 rake fin, CA40. GW-52
