Ian Wright (16360km): Wallis Lake, NSW, AU Day 1 of Round 5 NSW GPS/Slalom. Nice wind today ,started off 10-15 for the first 1 hour session of Nautical, 2 sec peak and Alpha format. Then later more of the same but wind increased to 15-25ish N/E. Exocet RS4 , Loft 7.8 , MUF 30 weed speed then BP weed speed 42. Great day had by all competitors Nice to have Jonesy visit from QLD.
Mick Saunders (12148km): Teralba, NSW, AU NW calm to gusty 6-10 knots and so hot, so ended up with a little sail and a warm bath. CA formula ss 84 wing maui 5.2 m

James Farley (12722km): Wallis Lake, NSW, AU Exocet RS4, TR8 7.6, JP Weed 36 - Wind NNE 12-15 then 20+ NSW GPS Series Heat 5 in Forster. Forecast was awesome and didnt disappoint. Really enjoyed the new format (2s, alpha, nm within a 1 hr period), thanks to Muz for mixing it up. Great to see everyone, and good to catch up with Jonesy from up north. Quite a large flat weedy area, which was a stack of fun once you got there. Awesome day of sailing.

sboardcrazy (25098km): 5-13kts E in front of Coal - 18-20kts plus Swansea -Coal Point, NSW, AU Hard work, horrible 2-3 ft peaky cross chop and boat wake with wind against tide at the sand islands so the flattest water was c 1ft. 7.5m GT Turbo - Rs4 ( 111ltres) - 39cm C3 sting pointer 7m NCX - 85ltre WT - 35cm slalom fin 5.7m gator - WT - 25cm maui ultra centre fin 1st 20kms were on the big kit. I was well powered with the sail but the board was too big in the chop and the fin felt like it was trying to take over. I went over to the sand islands to try and get some flatter water but with a pointer fin on I stayed down in the smaller chop. Got the 2 sec there. Did a run up above the point and the closer to Carey you got the patchier the wind. It looked like it was NW and nothing at Bolton. The yachts were racing in there too. I did one more run at the islands . I decided I wasn't game to bear away powered up in the confused chop so I stayed up close to the channel.. Ugh.. even worse with wind v tide and cruiser and boat wake backwash.. I was expecting to get thrown over the front at any time but I managed to get above the point where there was less wind and the water state was a bit better. Using some lulls and flatter spots I managed to get back in one piece.. Not fun.. If the water was flatter it would have been the right combo.. Rigged the 7m on the WT for a while. Buggerall in front of Coal but I knew it was honking over at Swansea so I plodded over. The chop was peaky washing machine type stuff but the WT was great. The sail was too big so I just kept going upwind until I hit the dead area..Decided to go in and rig down. A slow plod over to Swansea hoping I wouldn't fall in ( probably would have had issues waterstarting as it was 5kts at times). Finally! The right combo- board fun , rig right size..Had a few fun runs down the back of the peaks . Doing 20-22kts on that board feels like 28kts on my slalom gear.. Very happy with my gybing. Nothing spectacular but my entries have improved heaps and I'm game to go into them much more powered up and in bigger chop. Even if I don't plane out the rigflip etc is much better now I'm not hanging back..Even took a risk and did a pivot gybe in 5kts ..luckily it worked.. Lately it would have been better launching at Swansea as Coal has been crap.. As usual Tony , Andrew and Greg were having a ball foiling. Cluffy foiling , Lajos and another guy out from above the point with a 90's rig..
rus13b (5109km): Wallis Lake, NSW, AU sl112, 7m r7, 35 tectonics then 33 tribal weedys. day 1 of round 5 of gps series. great day plenty of wind & sun shine with warm water. was a bit light for the 7m in the 1st hr, then perfect for the 2nd hr. long runs all the way accross 7km in the 1st race. then to ruff past the weed beds in race 2 so stayed around the beds. nice & flat, a bit shallow would hit weed exiting gybes & slow dwn. great day of sailing.
mick13B (2059km): Wallis Lake, NSW, AU isonic 101 30cm vector weedy 7.3 M hsm rd 5 gps series first race was a bit light but nice in the gusts fin a bit small.. tryied to lay into a alpha boom just skimming the water which caused thr outhaul to come un done hence couldnt sail away... 2nd race was way winder was powered up good ever thing felt good in the first 10 min until i tried not to be thrown in a gust n came out 2nd best quad muscle stuffed again AND a first for me in 35 years of sailing got smacked in the head by the fin twice LUCKY i always wear my helmet fin cracked it and marked the slide up visor could of been a bloody mess. thank you to the organizers for the series.. |
