sboardcrazy (24291km): 5-24kts NW 60cm messy cross moguls Coal Point, NSW, AU 7m Turbo- Windtech 57 ( 90ltres) - 28cm WTweedy then 5.7m Gator same combo then 24cm WT stealth weedy Stoked with that 2 sec . A Lake Macquarie board PB and the fastest I've ever gone with a freeride sail. Probably my 3rd best speed on LM and it was out in the middle.. I'vebeen trying to break 26kts since last Nov and I got a 26.5 plus the 27.2 today. The most consistent NW I've sailed on the lake. There were some 5kts areas below Fishing point but other than that pretty good. I'm getting too old for these conditions.. I don't think I got one gybe But for once I didn't beat myself up over it. I tried the first few in a 5kt lull and the board sunk after the rig flip and I fell in..If I was in the strong stuff it was too full on and messy to try one and the one I did try I knew what to do but I was too buggered to do it.. The first few runs were with the 7m and were hardwork. It was over the top in the strong stuff so I went upwind, tried to luff the sail and depower it and keep the board on the water..I fell in on some of the lulls .. you had to be really quick getting out of the harness and straps as it would die to buggerall and often head you.. A few runs on this but it was too tiring and I thought maybe the 5.7m would allow me to feel more comfortable in the strong stuff. I put full tailflex on and the mastfoot right forward. The 5.7m was also a handful in the strong stuff as it was gusting 20-24kts and very choppy. Cross moguls were really bad and the wind super strong over Coal side. I was trying to not get upwind as I didn't want to have to go down.. those boards go upwind too well.. Over near Wangi there were a few areas that weren't as strong and the chop was abit more regular. I went for one bearaway in some strong stuff and got the 2sec. I decided to have another go next run.. It was real brown pants stuff very powered up with the board flying over moguls . I whoosed out and pulled back upwind after only the fin was in the water and the whole board was 45 degrees to the water up in the air.. My arms were dying as you couldn't commit to the harness much. I had to be ready to unhook and adjust to the lulls and in the strong stuff I was using my arms to feather the rig and shed wind..Had a quick lunch and put the smaller fin hoping that would settle the board down for another bearaway.. By now it was getting to be it's usual patchy self . I was worried my arms might die before I got back in so called it quits when I did. Certainly a buzz.. Maybe I'll try Whippy reserve or Teralba next time as the chop is much smaller and regular so I can use the bigger board if needed and get some gybes.. Just me on a big empty lake.. I took my mobile out in case things went pearshaped or I ended up at Swansea..
General wind. I took some of the strong stuff but I was buffeted by the wind and they turned out blurry. |
