kato (37520km): Sandy Point, Vic, AU A tough day at the office . Dawn start to catch the tide and a 7 deg air temp to make the water warm. . Forcast looked good for a WSW of 30kts and we hadn't had one of those for ages....... we now still haven't . All we got was WNW with a hint of West and just not enough before the tide started coming in. BUT it was nice to sail the Pit after such a long time away and the dunes are looking a bit smashed in places, so here's hoping that they get a bit smaller. Did one run to Yanakie to check out a few banks and got massively stood up in a gust, tossed meters into the air ending with a splash. Haven't had one of those for a long while..... they hurt. Hopefully Daffy has better luck up north All over by 9.30 Sl 87, Weapon 28, Ka Speed 5.7 | ||||||||||||||||||
Sailquik (29582km): Budgie, NSW. I got the call from the Locals. Good call!!! I suffered from Newbie spot ignorance, but really to be expected. Went out waaay overdone at the start on 5.7m and IS80. Survival stuff just getting back to the carpark!! I was going to take the 5.2m but the wind went Nuclear so I rigged the 4.7m! Of course, the moment I finished rigging the wind stepped down a notch. Whats the saying. Murphy is Hueys best friend? I went out on the 4.7m anyhow and was nicely powered but not fully. But the board flies very light on the water with the smsll sail and doen't seem to have much less power. I have always loved the shape of the KA 4.6/7's It took me quite a while to figure out where the flat water was. It wan't in anywhere near the same place as my last visits. When I finnally twigged (Thanks Andrew H and Matty D) The speeds come easy for the amount of wind I had. Very happy with that, but I wish I had been on that gear from the start when the wind was really strong! Then I thought I should try the 5.2m since it was rigged and ready anyhow. Everyone else was packing up, and that should have been a warning to me. . I got a couple of reaches and the wind died suddenly while I was about as far away from the carparks as possible. Thinking it would come back I started slowly walking upwind, but the wind just didnt come backl so I ended up walking 90% of the was back. Matt called it the walk of shame, but I think it should be called the walk of honour, in recongnition for going gung-ho right to the bitter end! LOL! Great to sail with all the Budgie locals. Excellent sailing was seen from everyone. Congratulations Matty on the Budgie 2 sec PB, and second in your all time PB's. That was awesome! Rigging the KA Race on the SDM mast transformed it for you. Initial fail-sail was on IS80 and 5.7m. Then CA40 and 4.7m Speed. The CA40 and 5.2m for the long walk back.
