Slowboat (51060km):
677 days ago Coodanup. Got there for the late session- quick chat to Richo and Woody who were done. Rigged the 7m and was going to take the speed board but I watched 2 squalls come through while I was phaffing around and bugger all wind in between, so put the Tribal Radix 135 on with a 33 weedspeed. Hit the water just before 2:30 and did some runs out the front of the carpark barely planing a lot of the time. The wind was coming in little patches and by some miracle I managed to hit a few 35/36 peaks out there- no way there would have been enough in the pond. Saw Cannonball just planing back in, and the other guys were walking. I figured I had a chance to get planing being on the giant board so made it into the pond. Tacking upwind as gust of the day came through and just made the dregs on my first run. I was watching the GPS sitting on 39 for a lot of it and it got up to 40.3 towards the end... 38.2kt 10 second. I thought "hey not a bad start for the big gear" but that was it... the wind clocked back to the West, making the run too broad for the light wind- and got a few 34-36kt peaks. One more squall came through but I fired too early and the wind only lasted a minute while I was sailing back upwind. Gone by the time I hit the run...
Happy to be on the big board though. Was a lot more fun sailing on the flat water than melville washing machine in that direction. I was planing most of the time with a few sub 10kt dropouts. If I had the speed board on I recon I would have got a few very underpowered runs at best. Packed up on my lonesome as the wind filled in nicely.
One of my top 5 runs was outside of the pond... despite being in there for an hour there wasn't much wind...
