Formula 159 Flow 1500 Gaastra 7.0

What a difference a day makes. Should have gone 6. Would have been much better. Next time.

Coal Point NSW Au

Stingray 115, Flow 1500, 5m Duotone wing

Good session - more flight than the other day, but less stable and took more effort??

Didn't need boat rescue today - got back to the starting point (twice).  The boat, on the other hand, had some issues.

Jimmy's Beach, nsw, au - JP SLW165 - 7.4 - ff28 and 55cm
Cold east wind when the clouds were there. Alot of it at times, strong. Too much kit for it but still nice.

Mobdog was on 130 f-race and 8.0 cheetah. He said same, fun but too much.

15 - 22kt NE Coal Point, NSW, AU

6.5m turbo- WT57- 28cms WT weedy

then 5.7m Gator- WT57- 24 stealth WT weedy

Horrible.  It just confirms I don't like sailing fast boards overpowered in messy chop.Undecided

I got there late and instead of checking the wind graphs and eyeballing it to judge gear I  asked. Gert said 15 - 18kts but he'd been on the shore for a while.

John Pearce was well powered on a 5.4m so stupid me rigs a 6.5m.

Very overpowered ( mainly too fast a board for the messy conditions. ).

1 run and I came in to change down. It was really late so I was expecting the wind to ease and when I looked out I thought it had. Back out with the 6.5m and b flat chat. I couldn't dump the power because it was a twin cam. I handled it ok but I'm too old to enjoy being that on the edge.

Came in rigged the 5.7m but thought it had eased and back out with the 6.5m..no it hadn't. Undecided

I  usually sail out in the middle but I decided to take Andrew's advice and head to Swansea for flatter water.

Not very flat , high tide , messy moguls and 10inch to 1ft chop.Cheated and got the 2 sec over there.

Managed to get back in one piece by going downwind in the lulls and upwind or stalling in the strong stuff.

What's the definition of crazy? Doing the same thing and expecting a different result? Embarassed

Anyway finally used the 5.7m. It was starting to get patchy but I was still very powered up.

Next time I'll spend more time and rig to be nicely powered and comfortable in the gusts.

Can it be called speed sailing if it's so slow, compared to fast sailing?
Seems to me like i can't get it to go much faster.
Small gear out in the clean wind would i guess, but chop. I like the flat water.

If anyone is interested in 17mins of the slowest speed sailing ever, here is my nov 7 clue cam.

It looks like a great spot in the video. Pity you need a 4wd to get up the beach to launch.

You'd sail straight up there from any point on the bay no worries i think Sue.
We have been doing a few beach to beach runs latley. Ok on the big boards on one tack, from the spit to winda woppa where the houses are.
Some crew rig along winda woppa and make their way up there on smaller kit sometimes. You are in the wind down going from down there.
From caravan park is ok, there is a wind shadow though.
