23 days ago 2 categories Coronation Beach, WA, AU Well that was the hardest 25ks I've ever sailed. Went the slalom gear first up, Magic ride 104, 7.5 NCX, BP38.
looked windy enough, took off planing with new harness lines in the wrong spot. Farted around with them not noticing the current. Couldn't get back or even water start, did the walk back up beach, while watching a couple of sailers set out. And said "oh der" to myself. When realising they were dredging straight out instead of fanging it down wind. They both come in after a quick suss.
So I only had to wait a short while and a few guys come out and I sheepishly followed shitting bricks the further I got out. I didn't make one tack all day let alone a gybe. Still on 4 foot straps I was out running waves and coming over the backs of them and just generally freaking out. At least I had wave knowledge from my mis-spent youth. Once it got too much to hold onto I jumped on Mr Keens old AHD 85 wave board and an ancient 5 metre wave sail. Well that was shit!
Way too small, both board and sail for wind conditions. So off with a rear strap on the JP and dropped a choco 30 in it and used the 5 again. Way better!
But still felt like a virgin in a brothel. Wasn't pretty, but had a crack 🤣 see how I go tomorrow.
