7m NCX - WT64 ( 112ltres) - 35cms tectonics weedy 1 run
then WT57 ( 90ltres ) 28cms WT weedy
The hand isn't quite healed but survived ok.
I would usually have used the 6.5m but it's in for repairs.
I found a 2015 NCX . The window was starting to crack. I only kept it in case I decided to learn windfoiling and almost binned / gave it away.
I'm glad I didn't. It was in better nick than I remembered. A few patches of sail repair material and it was good to go.
The harness lines weren't right and it feels less stable than the newer sails.
1st run I used the 112ltres .I wasn't sure how to rig the sail and put the boom at the same markings as my modern sails. I realised the boom was at eye height as I left the shore so headed to Swansea to put it right down the bottom of the cutout.
On the way back the wind and chop was unpleasant with that combo . I did a bearaway into the launch ( got the 2sec) and changed to the 90ltre.
I was off the plane more but much nicer in the gusts. It was patchy but I got one lovely effortless blissful run for a few 100ms towards Carey.
Finally got going on the way back and a long bearaway past the point. I was surprised it was only 17kt nm..felt faster.
Got the nm reaching into the shore. It must have been choppy as the WT's were smashing into chop today..or maybe I've forgotten how to find a line through chop.
It was still blowing but I was buggered and called it.
One worrying moment . I was headed towards Swansea and a 10m cruiser was coming up from down S. I was getting along nicely and watching it and could see we were on a collission course although ok if I kept the speed. Of course I came across a big lull and ended up off the plane. It was getting closer and closer. I thought about ditching the kit but yelled. Luckily they heard at the 3rd yell and turned sharply away.
Next time I'll wreck a good reach and fluff around until they go past..
I miss having more fin people to commisserate with. I wanted to see if anyone else thought it was messy but of course they're all on foils and don't notice chop.
Andrew and Nic on wings, Brett and Colin on Parawings , some dinghies, yachts and tinnies.
