Had a quick after work sesh with carl and leon today. Was good fun and some some solid wind. Poor carl hit something in the water and missed a fair chunk of the good wind. Was good to see him back out though. Hard luck carl mate. Leon had kindly litten a fire for us to enjoy at the end of the sesh. Thanks leon. Used 2006 111 falcon and 7.3 hot sails Maui. Combo felt wicked in 13 to 18 knot winds

Arvo sesh at Boggy Lake with Sam and Leon.  3rd time in a row arrived to see some windSmile.  Wind looked more than 10 - 15 knots so decided on 7m and 2012 113 fanatic falcon - 2nd time out and 1st time out since getting it back last week from a couple of touch ups including the fin box.  Sam and me decided to try and get an hour in.  I set off - wind was a constant 13 knots gusting to 18.  After 3 runs out and back the footstraps didn't suit the booties i had on so went and took the them off.  Back out again and cruising out towards centre island and BANGSurprised.

At 1st i thought carp and kept cruising for a few more metres and then thought i would get off and check fin.  The fin was pushed back at 45 degrees and resembled a weed fin.  The fin had pushed into the newly repaired rear of fin box, the front screw missing and the rear screw was just hanging in thereYell.  I managed to sail back to shore and pulled the fin out of the box and found the screw was bent in a "S" shape.   After this i took out the Fanatic falcon 102.  The wind had become gusty on both ends of the lake for gybing and also had dropped a little since 1st going out.  Tried to get an hour in to back up Sam but wasn't greatYell.   Ended up a good cruise even with the painful startSmile.

On more inspection of the fin and board - i found out the impact was pretty hard.  The brass threads had threaded and allowed the fin to slide backwards without damaging the top of boardSmile.  The fin base is cracked thoughYell but is repairableSmile.  Painful and costly sport sometimes but great fun.....

PS. I think that might have been Joes and Norms post.  Please let me know co-ordinates so we can remove that BastardSmile.

2012 Fanatic falcon 113 / 2011 7m loft blade / R375 fin.

2010 Fanatic falcon 102 / 2011 7m loft blade / 35cm sl7.

Glad to hear you didn't rip the box out of the board Carl, or worse - injure yourself!

Nice Hr and Alpha Sam.

I agree Kimba it could have been worse.  One thing i worked out was i need to keep the Falcon 102 for when the 113 is being repairedWink.  Not really but find the 102 is still a special board in my quiver - you can never have too many boardsSmileWink.  Sam was definately on a mission and was smoking fast as usualCool.

Chrs has an inflatable canoe thing if we have the coordinates we can paddle out and try and remove what every it is. Hovever Norm says the most he hit was 20 meters out from the trees on the other side what ever Carl hit seems closer to the big Island.

Thanks Jeff - i hope you get back out soonSmile

Gareth - i am talking about up toward the clump of trees up the top where the cows hang out and sometimes people drive up near.  Norm was apparantely 70m from shore and i would have been 70 - 100m out from bank.  I have gps co-ordinates anyway so we'll have to check it out soon...

Carl it would be good to get it removed as we sail a lot around that area. Maybe a few of us should get together to get out there and locate it as it might not be so easy to remove. Hope the fin was not to badly damaged.
