Fab winter sail, particularly when the wind shifted to the right direction......... before that I was sitting and lying in cold water for 2 .5 hrs waiting for the wind to shift, ........with one severe white-out close to 50kts and 5m visibility.  Funnily it was my second fastest run that was totally orgasmic, just felt better than sex Embarassed, well at my age anywaySurprised Went conservative as a pathetic old man would Embarassed, Manta 54, Gaastra Vapor 5m, pepeweed 23/48.

Wait for some of the speeds by Slowie and Stroppo, there was some real wind out there today about 25 to 35kts+.  In the 35kts+ stuff I was sitting it out, and slowie was going for it, another league that one.

The lagoon with hardie, the f fin, rod, strop, fudge and slowy

mega blow so went with my smallest, 4.4 koncept, 43cm board and 19.5 woody weedy, (well not the smalest fin, but I knew there'd be chop so didn't want to go any smaller)

Wild as, once in the lagoon I had to crank on as much downhaul as I could get with out a puller.

I guess I made the wrong call should have gone with hardie's idea and waited til late morning, but my weather vane was showing the wind just a tad north of west, so I thought the westerly lagoon run would be OK, but it was much too broad so had a few easterly runs instead, then waited out some wild squalls and got cold.

The after a few hours of this the wind did swing a bit and the end of the westerly run became usable, but the lead in was hairy, a bit too much chop and blustery winds made for a scary approach. Then the run was still a bit broad and unexpected lulls could drop you in the water.

So after I got my 37 (which is a north of Albany PB for me), I called it quits. Then of course the wind swung to close to the ideal direction, and much longer runs came into play.

Fantastic to see slowy and stroppo flying down the run, slowy in the midlle of the wildest storms, the rest of us were sitting out.

I was wondering if I should Post anything at all, considering how things went.?

So..oh here's my numbers, read them and weep. 'cause I did.!        Cry

The morning started of well, wind blowing,Decrepit offering one of his speedy boads to use,

sail flaping in the wind while trying to rig, and so forth. Injured my finger while rigging te sail, yeh, the middle,

the "rood" one.Not to worry, still get a good grip on the boom, just put some tape on it,keep the swelling

down. OK, forgot my booties but that won't stop me, not today. Ready to go, I follow Strop and Rod

up againt the curren and through the slimy goop on the bottom of the chanel that leeds to the lagoona.

Board and sail tryng to go the other way the whole time. Finally there, I go to grab the mast and do some

sailing, but something wasn't right, my finger was totaly numb, just getting in the way, couldn't revive it.

Disided to drift back, recover, and come back another day, with finger intact.        Frown

A Slowboat Secret = Think of sailing in stormy conditions, then think of a wild squall that comes thru that you would choose to sit out, well thats when Slowboat, goes for it, He has the skill, courage experience & belief that he can sail fast in those conditions and he does.  My thoughts in those wild squalls are "Shit thats dangerous, I cant sail that, I dont have the skill or ability, and I'll hurt myselfEmbarassed" hence why I am no elite speedsailorEmbarassed

Can't quite work out from the map which is the eastern run and which is the western. Looks more like northern and southern to me...

'Puff ' fin look out, Hards doesn't like people encroaching on his 'Softest Sailor on the Estuary' turf. Hope it comes good quickly- tomorrow still looks decent enough :-)

Sorry Anita, just me being a silly old fart again.

I called the southern run "westerlie" because it works in a westerly wind, so the one on the other side naturally became the eastern run, even though it's on the north side opf the lagoon.

Think I need to do a rethink about directions, yesterday I went to the west of the toilet block when fangy's instructions clearly said east!

Nice speeds men - sounds like it was an epic day.  Fin, hope the middle finger comes good, and when it does can you say hello to Frangaman with it for me - he'll turn up when the wind backs off and has run out of excuses like ice skating with the kids. Wink
