The forecast looked fairly good early in the week but has gradually been dissapearing.
Struggled with light winds this morning at the island but after checking the airport wind readings and a call to one of our team members who said it was as good as yesterday in Cairns I decided to sail back to the beach.
Had a great run until about four miles from the coast when the wind just stopped. After treading water for five or so minutes the wind came back in and I was off again. Just another mile and it stopped for good. Not even enough breeze to hold the sail clear of the water. After an hour and a half without any breeze I decided to pack the sail up and start paddling. Not very easy with the chop and current. Ended up calling Toody and Kel when I realised I was in trouble. Huge thanks to Toody for getting on to the lifeguards who put a jetski in to look for me. Just before the jetski got to me the coastguard went past inshore of me on their way back to Cairns so thanks to Kel giving them a call they turned around and picked me up still about three miles offshore. So over four hours later I ended up back in Cairns.

What an afternoon - once again, so much promise and yet delivery was lacking, albiet late, late, late. As Kel has already pointed out, the proper wind line was miles of shore. At least 5kms and took an eternity to get out. Inside was wafty, hollow and had now power at all.
Once out, it was a reasonably solid 15-16knts and reasonably flat to I might add - very comfortable sailing. Ian wasnt too far behind me on one of our intercetpions with New Caladonia, but once we came out of the wind line, coming back in I struggled big time to catch him, dropping on and off the plane with regularity.
All the groveling certainly didnt help my Hr. Very good turn out from the team, Kelly, Ian, James, Freddy, Hoppy. Great to catch up with Jamie (Wazza Yotty - Mandurah Mob) Thanks more making the ffort to come down and say g'day mate. When the wing is up to an exploritory sail, lets us know and we will get you some gear. Your sure to have sail between now and November.
Gaz, we were all pretty bloody happy as we watched the Coast Guard pick you up mate. Kel, Captns knock for organizing the search - thank you and well done.

Originsly was going to go to Port but changed ny mind at the last minute after James got a free pass from this tenis. (Catch up with you next time Andrew) Good to catch up with the Holloways crew, shame the wind was so far out. I followed Billy out for one run over the horizon looking for wind, found the decent wind about 8 Km off shore by my calculations.
Gaz, good to hear you made it back, we were all a little concerned on hearing of your prediciment, but happy you were in contact with Kel who was on the job.
