1355 days ago 5-10kt few patches 12-15kts plus NW then 12-25kts plus WNW Valentine, NSW, AU
7.5m GT Turbo- WT64 - 32cm WT proto weedy
then 6.6m KA Koncept
I usually go to Coal pt but was pursuaded to drive the extra 40mins through traffic to give Valentine a go ..
It looked pretty crappy when I got there and Byron was waxing lyrical about how much wind there was between Coal and Wangi grr..I decided I may as well give it a go as I was there..Big kit..
1st hr or so was patchy and only enough for the occasional blat over near Croudace 24.58kts.. I can see the potential though. It was pretty flat so if the wind actually blew it could be good. It swung a bit more W and I decided to explore over the other side as it looked to be getting a bit more wind.
There were some good long patches over towards Carey and I had some great long runs with a mile wide grin..Then it kicked in to 20kts plus and the grin became a grimace.. Bit scary with the big sail so I decided to rig down.
Got some good runs and then it cranked in another notch 12-15kts in the lulls and 20-25kts plus in the gusts..Got the adrenaline going bearing off a little in the gusts. I had the sail right down over me to prevent getting thrown in the bigger stuff and was really low to the water. 6m would have been faster I put full tail flex on and the board felt good.
I was stoked to see 26.14 on the GT 31. I was hoping it would stay above 26 but I just missed out.It felt scarier than doing 37plus at Budgy..
I could have used the 85ltre with a 4.5m sail as it was surprisingly consistent at times.. I felt like I was sailing an easterly except switched around. Nice long runs. I was wishing the gear didn't go upwind so well as I didn't want to have to bear off to get back..a few plop in the water and turn the board around moments.
Decent test of the weedy - it held the big sail fully powered in the 60cm chop and was rock solid and went upwind too well! Looks like a keeper..
Pity I was so tired by the time it kicked in as smaller gear would have been great!I was too tired to eat ( that's saying something for me.. )
Got to test out the new windjacket and between that and the neoprene hood I was toasty..
Just me and Nathan who intended to foil but it was too strong so he slalomed instead..
First use of the motion but I have to work out how to post it so this is the GT31.
