Who'd have thought a speed board could be so much fun in 25-30cm chop!
I was the only one there and it was an icey 12 degrees plus windchill when I first arrived..I really wanted some gybe practise but it wasn't to be..Rigged the 5.5m on the 80 and went for a nm..bit overdone and in self protection mode as I was the only one out..had a fun run back and got the 2 sec in a 'flatter' section in the chop.
Rigged down. great in the gusts , so nice to be comfortable and looking forward to them for once! Could have had the 80 on at first but then it filled in.
Some great areas of flatwater near Buff because there was no wind in them... Once the wind hit there were 10-15cm rollers everywhere in the flatter area.
I had some fully powered bearaways but it was too choppy and I didn't get much over 31kts so decided to just enjoy the nice long blats in the chop..
Most consistent wind I've had for ages and so much fun..Had several goes at nms.. I'd blast away going great and each time halfway down the wind would disappear.... The nm had a stop and wait for wind to get going bit in it..
Might have to try and get out further next time as it seemed more consistent there. The reaches back felt really fast but were only 25kts odd. Came in for lunch and got a bit cold..Had another failed nm attempt ( the 23.64) and intended to stay out for a few more runs but it was starting to get some over the top gusts so I figured I'd quit while I was having fun.
That combo felt so right today - rock solid in the chop. I was happy to push it.. best sail for ages..pity about the stats..
Heaps out - just Byron , Nigel and I at first then Pete, Pugs , Bruce , Brent , Mike , Matt, Steve and heaps of others..
Once home I had my gear laid out to dry and had to rush out to rescue it from hail.. The Watagan mountains looked very impressive today with big squalls going along them.. Luckily it stayed inland.
