What a difference some consistent wind makes! Pity there wasn't any flatwater..
Most consistent wind I've sailed since Lake George in Feb.. much better than the forecast.
I was really keen to try the WT57 ( 90ltres) in flatter water and do some gybes and speed runs..I've only gybed it a few times before on the first go powered in chop and Iwasn't much good..
I could probably have gone on the 80 iso and 6.2m for some of it but it wouldn't have been very comfortable or fun.
I got plenty of gybe practise but chose the wrong sail..It didn't pop properly so at the end of each rig flip the cam was an S shape and only a big gust fixed it..that didn't help my eixts..I've already ground 1.5mm off the cam , I think it needs another 1mm.
Anyway no flatwater by Budgy standard 10-15cm rolling chop everywhere. It was really shallow so you couldn't go right up in flatter water above the pole.
The launch. In normal levels it can be shin deep straight off the grass. The weed in the pic was only a shallow layer with hard sand underneath..
I was pretty rusty but the board was great , went upwind well , felt fast and was very forgiving with the gybes..
I pressed the wrong rail halfway through one gybe but the board recovered and we finished ok..Another time I grabbed a rail entering which is usually a death sentence but the board recovered and flew into the rest of the gybe.. I fell off the back . I thought it was all over.. It felt like the tail plate absorbs chop / errors etc and helps things,.
I started with no tailflex but ended up with half for more comfort ..this could have affected top end a bit but I'm pretty happy with that speed going over the back of little rollers..
I'm pretty rusty as most of my gybes lately have been subplaning flare gybes.. I've forgotten how to depower the sail entering overpowered..A few more practise runs at Budgy are needed. I did a few ok ones but the cam issue meant they didn't feel as good as they should have..
I was trying to get into my upwind 'slot" and managed a few times..
Fun sail and I think that distance would have to be pretty close to ,if not, a PB distance for Budgy in a NE. Nothing like consistent wind throughout the whole area to make it easier..
I feel I did ok for my 2nd attempt on the board .
Just Pete , Pugs, one other guy and I. Matt came out near the end of the session..
