Tried inserting my tracks from google but i can't insert the image. The channel is left of the barrage in the bottom centre of the image and is a slightly port tack run in a true SWer.  We launch just next to the marina entry midway between the barrage and the bridge shown in the top left of the image.(on the northern side of the channel)

I will post a pick when i work it out.

Hey Kimba,

What error are you getting?  To insert an image, click the little tree above where you type, click the little window icon to the right of "Image URL", choose your image, then click Upload and Insert.  Let me know if you're still having trouble.

Nice work guys, does that sandbar on the SW edge of the channel come out of the water for you?.

Anyone got a step by step How to on overlaying Navi track file over Google earth etc????

Hi Spotty, I can't remember how to do it with the SBN files, but I do it like this......

When in Realspeed, I "Save As" my data as a GPX file, but have to rename it for some reasion,

Then start up Google Earth and drag & drop your GPX file into Google. Google will then take you to where you sailed showing all your tracks.

I then go in Google to Edit > Style color > then I pick a colour and make the width 3.

Then go in Google, File > Save Image.

Done Cool

This is the line they take across the channel. You can see the outline of the deeper water and the shallower water is currently dry land. This is what is making it such a good speed spot i think. I used to sail straight accross the shalow water, but no longer. Sorry the white lines don't come up well on either shot, you'll just have to look closely.

 Goolwa Channel speed strip

Then in relation to where i've sailed before, the Murray Mouth. Shows the two runs you can take there:

It looks like this spot needs to be quite Westerly for superfast speeds? It would probably be great in a straight Southerly on Port tackas well . Great place .

I am very keen to know how windy it was and what gear everybody was on ?

alpha_channel_17_5_08

Here is my full session.

TimH_NM_17_5_08

My NM on 6.7RSR/iSonic94/SL731.  I had 1 run on the CA44 with a 5m RSR to get my peak speed but couldn't quite push the big gear over 40 and could have switched to the small stuff earlier - but hey, thats our sport- decisions, decisions....
