Chris Adamson (14466km):  3 categories    The strongest day of the summer blew through today for the South Beach Slalom - unfortunately I had to work until 1pm so couldn't make it. Looking forward to stories of the carnage. I headed down to Hardies where there were a few out enjoying winds that must have been kissing 30 knots. I was on 6.3 and this was definitely towards the top end of it's range. Also the Manta 49 and KA 23 fin. Good fun and a little scary for me with some big weed patches keeping it interesting. Foot still a little sore and swollen from a big stack 10 days ago - I have been wearing thongs and a suit to work all week! Someone was going real fast today... | ||||||||||||||||||
Whitey (887km):  Fantastic sail down at Hardies with some of the SRM and Mandurah Mob. Decided to take out the 25 year old Precision Equip needle speed board - what a blast!!! Very cruisy to ride and easy to control. Koncept 5.8 and Whitey custom fin. The board gybes like it is on rails - added 2 knots to my alpha! PD and John were FLYING! | ||||||||||||||||||

25 (14457km):  2 categories   Nice session at Hardies in what was undoubtedly the hardest seo of the summer!! 48 knot peak at Rotto at 8pm!!! Norts and I had visions of an hour but after one third [exactly 20 mins] of the time we were 'tin fruited' [thanks Mineral for that one] but we had sailed a bit over 9 nm!! The rest was a teeth clenching charge through the chop down the hardies strip - all my scoring runs were outside the outer markers - it was a case of sheet out and you will crash - you just had to hang in and go hard through the chop and you were rewarded wioth about 50 to 100m of reasonable stuff! I used my new KA 23 Assy and it was confidence inspiring with the CA SP47 and KA Koncept 5.7 - this is a magic sail - such range and control! Much respect to Slowey - magic stuff mate!! | ||||||||||||||||||
JC (5181km):  Skipped the slalom to go to safety bay with the family, before heading overseas for a week. Thought Safety Bay would be a good option.Was stoked to see only 5 kiters and not many more sailors out. I soon realised why. It was blowing really hard and choppy as hell. Only had the IS86 and CR5.9 as a rigging option so went with that and found the combination just a bit too much in the conditions. By 430 the wind was still building, probably over 30 by then and there was hardly anyone out (why am I still here?). Tried a few runs behind the sandbar into the pond but even that was incredibly choppy and rough The weedbar wasn't much better - - just couldn't seem to bust through the low 35's. Disappointed with the numbers at the end of the day. Might have to get a smaller board. IS86 CR5.9 and FO weedy 28 (way too much for the condiitons). Also, results posted in Doppler from new GT31 but haven't worked out the Alpha calc just yet.... Congrats to the lads who racked up some great PB's today - looks like Hardies or WW were the go. | ||||||||||||||||||
| Claude (28076km): South beach slalom, overpowered from start to finish and not much fun through the chop getting hammered at every jibe mark , thanks to Bjorn and all his helpers for a well organised comp. Speed sailing on flat water may have been the better option today and congrats to all who made that decision and nailed some pb's. IS86, 5.9 Code red, 32 Choco Fireblade. | ||||||||||||||||||
Slowboat (49283km):  4 categories woohoo. Went to South Beach in the morning for slalom, but with a very clear idea that I was going to leave early to save myself for speed sailing. After crashing in the lead of the first final I decided it was enough and headed home for lunch. Better not to persist and break things, get tired, and miss out on a potentially epic speed session. So it was... Wallyworld was goin orf. When I got there Lao had already cracked a 40, and porka wasnt far behind. Was tempted to rig a 7.0m since its never windy in Perth, but I saw a couple of scorching gusts and was keen as to get back on the 6.2m. Good choice I think. It was working great. Heaps of stable power for the bearaways. I first did a run on an old 43cm proto (my first 45kt board) but was overfinned (24) and not at all comfy on it. So I grabbed the loungechair combo (SP53+KA23sym). Very hit and miss with the gusts, but that only fires me up for another go! Great to see some big smiles after some PB rain. Thanks Gem for the beer. It fired me up for another short session which was a 44 on the dial. The hammy, bicep and pec cramps at the same time as the sun setting and wind dropping hinted the obvious. Mission for summer was to crack 45kts in WA. Well almost got there with 45.03 on the dial today. Also got a 44.9 on another run. Also managed 24 2sec runs over 40kts. Stoked!!! Perth's not so bad for speed after all.
