Windrider (12879km): CR5.6/5.1, Sonic85, WeedSpeed26. Early session at Melville. Started on the 5.6 then changed down to the 5.1 as the wind picked up. Still trying new harness line lengths, so happy with the speeds. Very happy with the NM given that I have yet to get things quite right! Nelson's tips helped a lot though - best speeds were after the "Nelson MasterClass"
Graceman (1458km): JP Slalom V 60, NP RSS III 6.2, Choco 30 Mach 1. Awesome sail at Melville some bullet gusts coming through and I had to be a bit careful as right shoulder was not working as well as it should have. Stayed in the Smelville rolling chop pond as I did not want to risk getting caught in the monster chop outside. The board and sail were brilliant I never felt uncomfortable and everything just worked really well. Tried to follow Tim S across the bank but the 30 was just to long he was running a 45 21cm fin and I think just getting through. The fastest runs were back into the beech over the rolling chop which was really scary, getting airborne big time. I think later on it will be really good, a higher tide and great wind. Has a great time with the crew and officially met new team member Glenno who has been around for a while. Also Ann found Minerals hole
Glenno (6595km): Naish Vecter 98, Ezzy wave 5.5 Wind very gusty,Over powerd on 5.5 and 98 L .Board I needed was left home for some reason. But still enjoyed the sail
Annika (2359km): What a crazy day. Saw the forecast and wimped out of the slalom... also got excited at the prospect fo swell. Big respect to anyone out on the slalom gear at south beach today... must have been insane. First sail was on a 3.7 and 66l wave board at avalon. Was bouncing around a fair bit and the sail was to much on the top turn (swell dissapeared too) so decided to pack it in and rig 2m bigger on the estuary. Sailed RRD Xfire 80 and Overdrive 5.4. Could really have done with the weight jacket to hold everything together better in the gusts (or a smaller sail I suppose). Board handled the chop great though. Gave me the confidence to bear away and go for it. Happy to get a NM PB. Been a long time between PBs.
Nauli (21655km): CR 6.1; Choco Weedspeed 30 on iSonic 105 then Sonic 85 Great windy day...patchy early...some ballistic gusts during my 2nd session...had a couple of nice crashes....breeze mellowed slightly later and evened out...really nice conditiond late. A number of the team out...hopefully we can leapfrog acouple of places. ...and a 2 sec PB to boot...noice!
Scott (5272km): Futura 93, Lightning 5.4, 32 Weedie - Might of been a bit windy? By the look on Annie's face as I went out, I think she already had the search and rescue number dialled in on her phone!! Spent the first 10 minutes stuffing around with harness lines, the sail and getting slammed... Then it must of back off a bit as I managed to get going, though I made sure I kept the hand brake on!!! Not sure the Davenport Machine is certified for 30 knot gusts anymore..... tomorrow might be more to my liking.... Yep I can hear the cement truck reversing up my driveway right now!
Darryl (25155km): Started the day at South Beach Slalom. Ended up a little overpowered with the 6.6. Was trying out a RRD 111 frestyle wave which was perfect for the conditions. As soon as the racing finished I headed straight down to Pt Walter. Isonic 86 TR4 6.6 and choco 30. Heard a few others had alredy broken 40 so knew I was in for a chance. Got about 5 runs all in the 39's which was getting frustrating. Finally got a little bit extra to get that forty. Found out after about an hour my mast base had slipped right to the front, no wonder things never felt right. ( what could have been?) Ended up sailing there for about 2 hrs. Bit knackered now. Did I mention I was also getting a bit thirsty.
Nelson d Foiler (31390km): 84L Exocet Compact Move with 6.6M KA Koncept & 31cm weedy, sweet ride even in the big gusts 84L Exocet Cross with 6.6M & 29cm Weedy 84L Exocet Compact Move with 5.3M KA koyote & 31cm weedy. Fastest speed was on the 3rd combination & crashed 7 seconds later. Big day out & totally buggered now
Annie (13417km): What a day. Great to see Darryl finally get 40 - what now? Annika - what can I say, your NM smashed my 2 sec Peak. Nauli - great speed for an old bugger. My tracks were very much like my days sailing - Way messy After getting rid of all the spikes from my near death experiences, I found that the 56.3Kn on my screen was not quite correct It appears the 30kn challenge is still alive & well |
