kato (37642km): First sail back since the distance sail. Heaps of people at the Pit today, some good wind for most of the day untill the tide went out . Very slugish start for me as my body remembered what i,d done to it last time so it took a long time to get into the grove. Spent most of the day on the Sl 52 with a 5.0. Had one run with the Ca 40 and the 5.8 and spun the fin out dodging a sailor who was starting his jybe. New hole in sail and very sore body, at least i unhooked before it went all wrong at 39.12kts. He was sorry . Had a go at a 1 hr but the wind had shifted to the west and got lighter so i just ran some distance to support another Pit Crewy in a distance pb
Seahorse (2398km): Ahh - finally. Have had shiny new koncepts eating away at me for weeks!! Got to the pit and found some good wind - got to try out more new stuff too with 21.5 KA Assy fin in the CA SP44. Great to see so many at the pit and having fun - pity you caught the bad end of the deal Kato. With some decent wind like this and new stuff to test I only had one thing on my mind - 5x10 PB!!! Have been burnt previously with 4 good runs and no 5th. Today I had 3 pretty fast runs at the start - all 10s in the 40s, but then it started going backwards with easing wind. I came back to the dunes and waited for a dark cloud with Ado, Jacques and Peter. I think I did pretty well with the timing on that one which produced the peak. For some reason my GT11 case fogged up then and I couldn't really make out my speeds - could just see the 4 at one end and so had to keep going. Managed to get some decent runs in. Used the 5.8m KA Koncept '11. Great sail. I just swapped to KA without ever having sailed a koncept - must say I'm impressed and all the hype is well founded. Good low end grunt really helped get the board going and it felt super stable and much much lighter in the hands than my old sails. And - it was super fast!! So happy with the speeds today - I wasn't overpowered ever so there is much more to go in this setup for me - imagine when I get to take the 5.0 for a spin Final note - sorry to the team for not having a go at any other categories - just had to get PB adjusted today.
Mal Faulkner (9976km): prisma 4.7/ torquay 51 slalom/ tm45-26sym had 150 km by midday without too much stress then worked hard till 7.30pm with a failing body and tough distance conditions to win the other 92 km. big crowd of sailors enjoying the good wind.
Ado (4489km): Quite a fun session (even more so because it was a Monday), but the wind never quite got there. All the settings were right - flat and broad, but we really needed another 10 knots. CA SP40. KA Koncept 5.0. KA Assy 21
Peter Johnston (8869km): Nothing startling to report. A good day for a sail, if not quite windy enough. Like John I was really hungry for 2sec and 5x10 PBs, but it wasn't to happen. I kept pushing at it and did get my faster runs later in the day, but no luck with PBs. All 57 kms done with 6kg of weight on my back and I didn't feel too tired, so at least pleased with my fitness. Nearly forgot - Big congratulations to Mal for achieving such an epic distance, and in less than ideal conditions!!! And well done John on the new PB!! Good to see lots of people out - and to meet Haircut (Justin) and partner Sabine. Lorch 63L Div S with KA 20cm assy and 2011 KA Koncept 5.0m |
