My pre planned arvo was a success. Wind was a little late arriving, was at PP at 1.30 but didn't get wet until 2.30. 1st in with Claude rigging.
Had some great early runs on a very smooth river, not very often i see it like that. Then as the wind built needed a few tweaks to drop the power. Then it got a bit crazy but couldn't be bothered dropping a sail size due to time restraints. Kids crazytime was waiting for me so perservered with a fin change for a few runs. Definitely a few knots faster with the Choco, much freeerer. A 38 would be nice.
Quick chat with Mr Snides while admiring his evil little weapon (his board), something i'd use to remove splinters with i think.

I was able to get away from work early today. That part of the plan worked out beautifully. The second part of the plan was to try out a new place to launch. That part was not so good. I had hoped to sail from a little beach in Dalkeith to Melville beach. That would save me a half an hour drive around the river. It looked very windy so I chose a small fin and applied lots of downhaul. That may be good for downwind runs but I struggled to get upwind. Because of this, and the chop, and the windholes and my average technique, I never got to Melville beach in fact. I did however have the audacity to land on a kiters beach (to adjust my harness lines), and this apparently upset one of the kiters to such an extend that on my way out he tried to cut off my head with his lines while angrily yelling at me. Definitely uncool.
So it was a bit of an average session, but I learned a few things, so time was well spent.
