Slowboat (49552km): Melville. First gusty frontal WNWer for a while. Got there earlier than usual and rigged the 7.8m in anticipation of variable conditions. Rigging while gust of the day was in progress and just scraped a run in on the big board with 47cm fin for a 32 on the dial which seems to be as fast as I can push this big fin in that sort of wind. Changed to the 113/38cm and got one run in (fastest of the day) before it backed off. Stayed on that for most of the afternoon until the last 30 minutes on the big board again. The wind picked up for that so at times I was getting quite lit across the wind. Got plucked off the water in one bullet but managed to land and keep sailing. Great fun burning around with the crew. Westerlies offer nice long smooth runs. About 2 minutes after telling daz I fixed the van (after I got pops to tow me home the other night) it broke down in the middle of canning hwy on the traffic island. Luckily there was a perfectly timed gap in the traffic so I rolled back across the highway into a side street. Then even more luckily Daz stopped to lend a hand... or shackle bolt to tie on my tow rope- conventiently stored on my front passenger seat. Thanks maaaate. Would have turned into a mission since my phone battery had also konked it a few minutes earlier. |
