Captain bogan (50569km): Race day at Boggy lake. Late to rig, register and dial the gear and ended up with no wind in the middle of the lake. Missed the de-brief and got to shore just in time for the start. Wind was gusty and changing directons so opted for 8m Hotsail GPS, Fanatic falcon 113 and Black Project R425. Used more downhaul and outhaul today (thanks for the info Redsurbus) - sail was excellent. At the start of the race we all walked to deep enough water and "TOOT" sounded the starting horn. I wasn't ready and eventually jumped on. By the 1st mark i was in 5th place. Another lap and into 4th, 3rd and into 2nd by the 4th lap. I headed up to the bouy but couldn't quite make it so decided to jump tack. I couldn't quite get around the other side so just kept going and the guy in 3rd place was shouting at me to head back and go around the bouy. After all the comotion and the wind had now picked up to 15 -20 knots and a couple of near misses on gybes i decided to abort the race. Went in for a drink and watched the end of the race. Sam was smoking on a BIC Techno 160 beginner board and 7.3 Hotsail GPS and if he could have got around the bouy on the last lap would of won the day - well done Sam. After the race - we had a beer - thanks Gareth - Strath Windsurfing shop. The wind had now settled into a solid 15 - 20 knots with some stronger gusts so took out isonic 86 / 6m Hotsail GPS and Black Project R325 fin. Again used more downhaul than usual and had a great session to end the day. Alot learnt today and should be ready for the next race next month....

Sammy (43182km): Had a great day today. Rocked up hung over after a big Friday night drinking session. Chilled out catching a few carp before the race. As my fanatic 111 has gone to heaven because of to many carp encounters I had no choice but to rig the big bic 160 with a 50cm fin. I had no intention of being a serious compeditor on this rig but after a couple of laps was surprised to be in the lead by a good margin. Carl had a bad start but when he got into his grove I noticed him quickly get into second spot. A couple laps later and he was pulling back distance from me. Just when things seemed to be going well the wind changed. In had to tack to the top bouy and had an insane down winder in a solid 20 knots. To say it was a bit of a handful would be an under statement. After a couple of more scary laps to a different bouy and some serious chop I pulled the pin not wanting to f--k my gear. Got in and was told I just needed to go round the bouy to win. If I had of known it was the last lap I would ha simply gone around and won but thought there was more time to go. Next time. Great race with lots of fun and excitement. Thanks Gareth for the beer and the race. Went out on my 95 fanatic still with the 7.3 gps hot sails rigged and had a blast. The 7.3 felt awesome today. Changed a couple if things while rigging and its fantastic. Till next time

Race day started very patchy then two thirds thru the circuit the wind seriously swung and cranked. I certainly wasn't ready for it - I'd been only just powered - just getting upwind of the buoy for the first few laps, and dropping off the plane at times. so my kit was rigged to squeeze power, but when it swung I got a lot more than I could handle. after the race i rigged down and headed up to the speed patch, sailling until my hands started to shred. very sore and tired now. all in all a good day. any planable wind is good wind, and it was good to see some faces I hadn't seen in a while as well. well done to all contestants and big thanks to the guys and gals who organised it. looking forward to the next one..
