kato (37642km): Started at 8 and had 40km by 12 by using the 8.5. Not a lot of wind and had another 10km by 1pm,then the wind arrived.Fun time on the 6.6 and the CA66 but there was a lot of weed around which made a 1hr mission impossible as i had to stop to clear weed. Jumped on the smaller board with a weedie in it for some late arvo play time. A really good session on the new gear. Ca66,Koncept 8.5,6.6,Venom 34 (too small) Ca53 Koncept 6.6,Wolfgang 25 weedie
Sailquik (29582km): A nice sail on Christmas eve. Good to have a blast around with Mat and Craig. It was good to tune the new sails and boards as well. Sailed most of the day on IS87 with 28cm Lessacher Rake-30 28cm and 2013 5.8m Koncept. Switched to the new 2013 6.2 Koncept ofr the last hour or so. I was definitely faster on that and it is beautiful to sail. Smooth and stable and feels very efficient. I should have been able to do a faster 1 hour on that combo but I was suffering from lack of match fitness and skulked home with my tail between my legs. Wind WSW and about 15-20.
Ado (4489km): Made the annual pilgrimage to Jervis Bay for Christmas and to get the real wind fix. Boy has it delivered. What started as a fresh seabreeze has ended with a 30-35 knot gale, storms and now, what we call here a "Black North Easter", which is the seabreeze gone feral with dark broiling overcast skies and even rain. As I type 35 knots gusts are hitting the windows. I'd heard about the little weed bank in St Georges Basin from Keith, so rather than sail at my favourite nor'easter spot in the Bay, near Huskisson, I thought I'd try a session at Sanctuary Point, St. Georges Basin. With a 15-20 knot breeze building, I wasted no time getting out to this fabled weed bank. Well it looked great, but it's no good unless you have a real weed fin, which I didn't have, so I thought time to unleash a few runs out in the open chop. The strategy paid off with a few 35 knot peaks on the SL55 slalom and 5.5 Race. Keith was ripping it up in the bank with his weedie and ripping some good runs out in the chop. Encouraged by the speeds and the building wind, which had reached 25+ by 5pm, I ripped out a few runs on the CA40 and managed to up the peak by half a knot on the slow side of the 20 KA Assy. The fast side was running into the beach which was only 20 knots so more 34-35 knot runs. All in all a great arvo and reminiscent of the late eighties and early nighties with heaps of locals ripping it up in this great spot. Big southerly forecast for tomorrow.... Happy Christmas! Will check the NM, alpha and didance when I get back home...
