PJ, there are very few guys on slalom or speed gear in the US. Most stores do not have slalom gear, although I think this is a bit of a chicken-and-egg problem.

Most popular sailing venues in the US are B&J or waves. Sailing slalom gear there on a windy day requires a skill level that only very few have. Sailing dedicated (low-volume) speed gear in my area (Boston-Cape Cod) is almost never possible, because the wind is usually up & down, and the water is deep. In our team, we have only two guys who go for speed a lot; unfortunately, the two two fastest guys in the team speedsurf mostly on vacation (Dean) or just when it's too cold for freestyle (Nikita). It does not help that we don't get a lot of wind when it's warmer, and that some speed strips are not accessible in the summer.

Thanks guys.

Yeah, we only have two teams here and seems like only two members in each team trying to push hard..:)

It's hard to find some flat water in our area as well, and the wind is really gust here (sometimes actualy helps), so we try to go as fast as we can on a rough water to make it easier when we get a chance to find something flat.

But we have some progress here in US, first speedsurfing event will take place on Lake Isabella, CA in one month, that's only 6-7 hours from us, will definitely try to get there for few days. Would be nice to see Fogland Speed Surfers there Wink, if you guys will have a chance.

Signed up for Russian speedsurfing event few days ago, still have my Russian passport, hopefuly they not going to push me out..:)

Hey PJ, in USA there is shortage of good speedsailing conditions. Like my local windsurfing buddies like to say; they are more maneuver oriented Wink and are more than happy to leave that speedsailing in rough and chop to Denis and me.

In general, windsurfing is not as popular here as in Austrailia or Europe. I am trying to get more people involved, but its not like they are waiting in line to sign up for the team. Not sure why, its just the way it is.

Seems like everyone really active in the US speedsurfing teams is an immigrant - true for Boris, Denis, me, Dani, and Sabah. Also true for Cesar (who was the original driving force behind the Fogland Speedsurfers), Bart, and Roo; and for Nikita and Nina, although they are more into freestyle than into speed.  The exceptions on our team are Dean and Fred.

We used to think that there are very few good speedsailing spots in our area, but I don't think that's really true - it more that the usual windsurf spots are not speedsailing spots. But with countless hours on Google Earth and some SUP and windsurf explorations, we discovered funtastic speedsailing spots for W, NW, N, NE, E, SW, and WSW winds. All of these spots have chitter-chatter flat water when things line up. Most are tide-dependent, but the same is true for some of the great spots in the Netherlands, too. We probably have more sailing spots to explore here than in CA, though.

Thanks for the invite to the speedsurfing event. Nina and I will be in Hatteras at that time, and I doubt you'll see a Fogland Speedsurfer show up. But if you guys are ever in the Boston/Cape Cod area, give us a ring! Keep in mind that many of the speed spots are limited to off-season only, and no-go in June-August. Best speed sailing here is probably in April and October-December, anyway.

Nice session!

We are trying hard to do so, but where we sail the run is short by the time we try to get some speed (go down wind) the run is over. i will not give upCool. Keep up the good work. As Peter said if you ever in Boston area you are welcome to call on us, no need for equipments, just show up and sail.
