Mackay, QLD, AU

5.4 VMG speed (Thanks Kel), 270 Sputik, 300 Caspar.

Illawong beach. Aiming for the back half of the mornings tide. Stopped raining at 10am so tried my luck for the last hour of water. 25-30kNts, ligher in close, swinging South to East. Started in a lull but once out there comfortable and well powered up. Needed a gust to really get the best of deep runs though.

Pretty challenging in the big chop, could only pull 29s, then just wanted to trip up in the ugly chop. Was a bit disapointed but didn't have time to change to the Naish and a wave sail for some ramps.

As the tide dropped there looked to be a few flatter bits in the shallow upwind. Nailed a southerly wind shift to get up there, then a rain squall bought it Easterly and cranked in on hard. Got one good deep speed run on a flattish patch and it felt quick.

Very happy with the numbers. PB for the home beach.

Lake Tinaroo, QLD, AU...Amazing what a good sleep does for the body....Stayed off the bike this morning and presented fit and willing at the dam.

Cap'n Morgan was again slicing it up and Billy, Freddy, Ian and Hans made up the numbers...HoppyBob turned up as chief motivator.   A few rain squalls added some variation and the wind was gusty as usual, but everyone enjoyed themselves.    I used 6.6m KA Koyoty and the 120l S/cross and 37 Lightning fin.    ...Very happy with my session....LG....Lifes Good!!!  Cool/Innocent

Lake Tinaroo, QLD, AU  105 Screamer, 7.5 "Blue Bludger" T4, BPR 37.5

What a pleasant outing to the top of the mountain. Thanks for the lift Fred. Great to catch up with the Kelly household, Hans -The Flying Dutchman, Ian, Herby and Hoppybob. Good to also see a couple of young-uns a few doors down giving the sport at red hot crack.

Quite wet and stormy at times, blistering bullets intermixed with total dropouts. Mixed bag all day. Didnt have the volume to punch through the lull's to the next wind line but overall, considering this would have to be the first sail in 5 odd weeks, not to bad. Great to catch up with the Tinaroo locals as well. Thanks for the coffee on the way home Han's.

Port Douglas, QLD, AU Got a quick sail late in the day a few of the locals were already carving it up when i got there.A good hard southerly settled in,so i was keen to try out new high wind sail.5.4m Xtype North, Had a lot of trouble getting this sail and wanted to know if it was worth the effort..Had a good session but stopped and started a lot playing with other peoples gear ..When everyone went home had a good blast for nealy an hr..Wind was honking with solid gust coming through, new sail felt great..sea was to rough for speed runs, So it was time to' lock in' and hit some angry chop as hard as you can..Was blasting home from out wide when i got nailed by an angry squall thought i could out run it but failed dismally..Got totaly smashed, cracked the head on boom and hurt shoulder..Was totaly pissed off...Last weekend fell off' dirt bike' and hurt my back..Now i got sore back and sore shouder..All in the name of FUN..Cheers Ed..'101 Falcon'5.4m sail 35cm fin..

Tinaroo with Billy ...wasn't sure what we might get in the way of wind as we drove through a few squalls.

Day was quite good considering...

Had a cuppa and a gas bag at Han's place before driving home through some more squalls.

Postscript - just got the biggest 10minute spanking.  5.0m sail ripped from my hands twice and launched over the back of some humongous waves.  No need to say that I called it quits. 30knots plus and it doesn't look like backing off.Embarassed

Numbers aside, there are some days when a 4.8 wave sail and and nice sinky wave board make much more sense. Ramps everywhere today, and all I did was try to dodge them. What have I become!?!

Thanks guys. It was a real nice day, reasonable sailing was had and great company. Not a whole lot more one could ask for. Looking forward to continuing the march forward in improvement. Have to start getting serious on my alpha's. It's just so much fun going faster.
