Lake Tinaroo, QLD, AU

Had the day off to go to green for the pre-cyclone winds but the boats were cancelled for the dayYell.

Had a look at the beach but the wind had too much south and the king tide made for some very messy water, so instead of risking life and limb i headed for the safety of the dam.

On arrival the wind looked very soft, but with big winds forecasted I rigged the 6.7 and was rewarded after a couple of runs with nice 20knt gusts which were coming through every 10mins or so with 10 to 15 between.

Good Fun!

Used 2012 Isonic 107, Overdrive 6.7 and C3 String2 38Cool

Clifton Beach -SSE 12-25 knots Seas a MESS Gear RRD Xfire 90 V2 Viper 34 RSR E5 6.4

Struggled today .Getting off the beach with pounding surf & a massive wind shadow was a  challenging start .

By the time I reached Double IS I was spent -wind was so Gusty & seas so messy found myself spending most of the time out of the harness.

Then only had time for 3 runs over the Reef Flats before the tide dropped out ...

Couldnt point back home so Catherine had to collect me from Palm Cove.

Was it worth it .???? Yes of course !!!

Hoping Toody got to sail GI-should be a day for 40+ out there today ...Smile

iS90, 5.0 Overdrive, 33 S1 Slam - Lammermoor Beach, QLD, AU SE 25 -35kn

Got absolutely smashed again today but I wasn't going to let it get the better of me.  Punched hard upwind down the beach in the messiest conditions I've ever experienced, had a rest and then tried to go downwind.  Got smashed a couple times with some wind squalls too strong to hold it together out of the straps across the water surface and almost snagged myself on a shark buoy (big hooks).  Finally got a belting in the shore break but thankfully nothing broken.  Haven't felt this spent in a long time.  Now 4 days of 30+kn winds and tomorrow is forecast stronger.  Cannot recall previously this extent of wind strength consistently over 4 days now even with cyclones.

Port Douglas, QLD, AU  Late yesterday arvo it was windy enough to blow a couple of chihuahua's down the beach and all the kite surfers were hiding in the girls toilets..I was still carrying a few injuries from the last couple of weekends mishaps so i convinced myself that a good hard sail would be good therapy.  Had a good blast in 25kts and a very choppy sea coming off the back end of our latest cyclone for almost an Hr..Then wind went from fresh to frightening to bloody scary, dropped a gybe out wide and couldn't water start due to the fact that my board kept doing cart wheels across the ocean every time i got it in position to get going, eventualy got bact to beach in one peace..Was to chicken to go out again which was a bit of a disapointment as there was still an hr of daylight left..101 Falcon 5.4 Xtype North 'cranked down hard'...Cheers Ed..

Believe it or not but worse than Iron Pot and much bigger than a metre swells with these really big tides.  Love the iS90 too - one of the best boards I've had (and surprisingly still in one piece).

Not fair Snags! You always get the best wind!

Greg,

Sounds great and thanks for the invite but unfortunately babysitting as the wife is away this weekend so I'll have to take a rain check.  might still get a sail here if wind backs off a little.

How long's the run at Boyne too?

Kel,

Been too windy and more so rough since Sunday.  The 5.0 looks like a handkerchief but it's had no problems getting my 94kg's planing.

Hey Edward, the important thing about this sail is that you didnt wreck any gear....That in its self is worth a PB. Might need to discuss this with the powers to be...Wink

Full on Snags, 10kms in those winds in open ocean conditions is an adventure and an achievement.
