3803 days ago The 'poo your pants' winds just didn't arrive here. In fact, around mid day the sun came out and the wind dropped to absolute CALM!
We were watching the radar and wind streams on it and could see the low cell and wind approaching so we went down to the inlet to rig up. It seemed surreal ringging 4.4's in sunny, warm dead calm.
The wind eventually started to come in but not with the bang expected. It slowly built from the SW to about 20-25 knots and thats about it. I guess a couple of puffs may have got to 30 knots, but not for more than a few seconds. Faced with this 1 went on the IS87 slalom board with 5.4m Koncept for a few runs to check it out. I figured I should be able to get a smaller board going so opted for the old IS50 with 21cm symmetrical C3 Slingshot. It was nice fast cruizing and Gybing but not much in top speeds as the course was pretty well dead square all the was through. I managed a few slightly higher peaks by running out into the channel at the end of the course. I thought about gong for a 1 hr but decided that if the wind did come in I would be too tired to speedsail. So I opted to try a few Alphas. The wind didn't kick so we packed up at about 4.30pm.
A bit of fun but not what was expected!
