Green Island, QLD, AU

Full on day at Green and Arlington with Benny and Cam on the water and Bob as camera crew and potential rescue boat driver.

Roughest crossing from Green to Arlington that i have ever experienced, with a solid 30knts and a very confused sea, and once at Arlington the run was also messed up with lots of chop and varying swell directions made the Nm run very exiting!

Happy to get a 40 on the dial again this month and very happy to get it on my Slalom board, had a few run on the speed board after the trip to Arlington on the reef flat but couldn't hook into a gust before the water ran out.

Great Fun!!

Used 2014 Isonic 90, C3 Viper32, Isonic SS49, C3 SS21 and Overdrive 6.0Cool

Green Island & Arlington Reef today -NM mission .Cool

Gear ISO 80 RSR E5 6.4 Venom 32 .( awesome combo for the conditions ).

Had an hr or so on GI early in the session dialing in the gear & making sure the mast was up to the job this time Sealed

Strong SSE at 25-30 knots, hell crossing to Arlington & not much flat water on arrival but good solid wind on the run so VERY happy with the numbers .

Glad to be home safely -our tinnie took a real beating on the way home Yell

Great numbers KEL & Bennie !!

Green Island, and ARLINGTON

epic day on the island and at arlington... celebratory rum at bob's becuase i couldnt wait to get home to check my speeds. SOOO close CAM!!

The day went something like this.....

I used my ka 6.2 koncept 91 litre mistral slalom and 32 vector volt.

just like the other boys spent the morning hitting the speed run on the top of the island and wasnt really feeling it at all. couldnt seem to get settled for some reason and spent a lot of time thinking about it. managed to get one good bullet and hooked the 40 off the point.  Cam had a few rippers and kept pushing hard an kelly was looking dangerously quick.

I decided to try for a few gybes but was actually not gybing very well today or at all the whole time I've been in cairns for that matter, so I'm pretty happy with the alpha even though toody still has the record by a smidgen!, the 2 second max on the alpha was only 32 so not too shabby to pull a 26 with such a low top speed.

had a break and a bit of water before heading over on the hell mission to arlington. this crossing is by far the roughest most unpredictable stretch of water i have ever sailed anywhere. it makes the ledge to lancelin race in 30 knots seem like mellvile or somewhere else flat.

both feet were screaming by the time i got there and i was relieved to reach the shelter of the flats. Cam, like a man posesed was allready in full flight when i got there and i found kelly having a breather further upwind so i joined him.

i really need to run an adjustbale outhaul for this as its quite frustrating adjusting things there as you have to tune your gear for survival on the trip over then move things about to make it go fast down wind. harness lines outhaul mast track all need to move. not easy in 30knots waist deep water and coral with a ripping current.

anyway after the first feeler run i kinda had it sussed a bit better for the second and after a few tweaks managed to tear into a good gust and hang on until my back leg started crying for mercy and my lungs oxygen. had a 38.5 on the dial in the nm run so thought it would be close to a pb.

the hard part is not knowing exactly what the run is goin to deliver until you get there. Today it kinda delivered but not really. stoked to get another few pb's but also left wanting more.. maybe tomorow. in the meantime i have to pack all my shit ready to fly back to perth tomorow night at 6pm. looks like the 2:30 boat for me.

congrats to cam and kelly for the pb's as well and pushing all day... Some good  memories from this session.

thanks bob for the caddy and camera and rum.

There's no place like home!!!

Great numbers guys and sounds like a real adventure. Don't like the sound of smashing through that swell in a tinny! It was rough enough on the ferry. Look forward to bobs pics/video.

Wow guys a session for the ages.  Incredible numbers especially those Nm's and Troppo what an alpha.  Can only imagine how tough the run was getting over to Arlington too.  Now to back it up with a 1st of July session tomorrow ;-)

Regripped my ISO 80 recently Hardie-was an abject fail -almost as bad as the regrip on the RRD 90 Yell Fine when in the straps but slippery deck ++ so alphas were out today .

Got the alpha board ready for tomorrowCool

I think your 26+ is safe for a long time to come-?? for ever ...

Cam the only real test is when we get to sail in the same conditions same day, hopefully in the future sumtime. I'm just thinking up some excuses this very moment............ "Cam I could've sailed as fast as you today if I had the same talentEmbarassed" " Cam I think you just got 27 lucky gusts todayEmbarassed".... Howembarrassment, I can think of a miwwion alreadyEmbarassed

Mike-I have this dream of a permanent pontoon set up on Arlington's Southern Arm with a large rigging area & a range of rigs to chose from as well as a boat shuttle service that collects you at the end of the NM run & delivers you back to the start of the run .(this avoids the massive energy expenditure currently required to pinch upwind ,against current & short tight chop to get back to GO !!)

A second pontoon would allow helicopters to land ,delivering enthusiastic speed sailors fresh from either GI or the mainland to begin their NM sessions with heaps of reserve (rather than the current vastly depleted reserve from 7 klms of open ocean bashing on slalom or speed gear  to arrive at the start point ).

Then this amazing spot would be available to young & old ,the very fit & the not so fit to experience at least once in their lives .CoolSmile

Hey Cam, Rico had a plan a few years or so ago to organise a boat to skipper windsurfers over to Arlington for over nighters, but we couldn't muster up any local interest. He could get us a large boat, I thought it was a good idea same as the West Aussies do that surf trip, the one Benny goes on.
