JC (5181km): Pelican Point, WA, AU Holy smoke that was windy. Set off from Peli with Dr Langer. We had about 20 minutes after which we decided it was getting a bt too silly out there. 30knot gusts and stupid chop in parts. Came in for a wee rest, then was co-erced into heading up to Melville. The runs back were smoking and great fun, even if a little 'exhilarating' in the gusts on the dead down wind runs. Very surprised by the peak speed. I knew the Patrik was handling the chop well but hard to tell how quick you're going when you're sailing over thigh high chop in the middle. Snides (28038km): Melville Beach, WA, AU nice arvo sail rigged for speed and hugged the shallows... was unusual rigging a tissue 5.8 on a toothpick 400... mistral 91/clockwood weed 26 carbon/e5 5.8 underfinned sailing across and upwind but nice off the wind. very gusty with gusts in the high 20's | ||||||||||||||||||
Recycle (17196km): Saftey Bay almost at its best ,tide perfect early but wind still a little lacking, wind kicked and swung a bit more south but with tide coming in the rolling chop took the edge of it.Very happy to have cracked my first 40 for the almost over year. Slowboat (49232km): Safety Bay, WA, AU edit... comments... KAR 6.3m M speed 47 Tribal 21 asy. skipped out of work early to hit the beaver at lower tide. Wind was a steady 18-23 when I got there and it built through the afternoon. Gusts were hitting 25 (surprised, but looks like it was stronger on the river again), had to use 15cm negative outhaul to get the pull off the wind since there were no bullets. Peak speeds were often only .5kts more than 10sec which is an indication of the wind being steady but not super strong. Tide was moving in as the wind swung and the run got longer, but more chop and gustier. Lots of seaweed being a pain- the asy is only 20something deg rake so constantly had weed on the fin. Fortunately it was easy enough to clear it sailing into the run most of the time so I didnt bother switching to a weed fin since the asy is a weapon on the run. Usually this fin eats the weed but its really bad down there at the moment- super sticky ribbon weed. Great to see the crew fanging again. About time we saw some 25kt gusts over here!!! Moooooooaaaaaaaarrrrr please. |
