kato (37642km): An early dawn start at the Pit. The drive in looked like 1/2 the trees had been chipped and left all over the road....a good sign that its windy Rigged up the 5 and 5.8 as we had no idea what the wind strength was as it was still too dark. Once dawn arrived and I could see the sand dune being moved across the inlet I jumped onto the Ca40 and the 5mt. First run 7am and a 42.5 on the dial......its going to be a good day Took at few more runs to start collecting some good numbers as the wind would vear to the sth now and then, great when comming back up the run but not fast for speed down the run. Had one great run back up to the top, through a sand squall with very S wind ,stop, turn and run down in a W wind and a 43.5 peak. Should be like this all the time. Called a halt at 10am and back to Daffys for coffee, relax and prepare for the arvo. The arvo wind wasn,t as strong and I blame the Queenslanders!!!! for stealing the wind Vando and the boys joined us for the arvo. Spent all the session on the Sl 53 and the 5.8 trying to get it to a 40kt peak.......so close 39.042 2 sec. maybe tomorrow Ca40, Koncept 5, Ka/Loc 20 Sl 53, Koncept 5.8, Mxr 24 | ||||||||||||||||||
Sailquik (29582km): Dawn Patrol. Riging in pre dawn twilight. The problen with this is you can't see how windy it is. So I rigged 5m and 5.4m and by the time I had it looked like the right choices. Went with 5m and 5kg weight first to test it out and got my best peak on that first run. Then it was hard to get more than 40 knots as the wind swung SW and the course was very tight. The best strategy was to do as many runs as possible to hope to jag on of the brief gusts that turned more WSW. Kato did that well with his ironman fitness! I managed another 43 peak and a 42 but then it was 40's. It was great to be really powered up again but a litle frustrating not being able to turn that abubdance of power into speed with the course so tight. I tried both the 5m and 5.4m but used the 5m for more runs. The afternoon had a good angle but not enough wind, being more in the low to mid 20's Just a few 40 kts peaks so no improvement on the averages etc. Good fun sailing though and nice to meet the Qld. guys! CA40, Tribal 16.5cm assy speed. |
