Wow! What a day! I got here last night just before dark and the wind arrived later in the evening with torrential rain. Around midnight the wind was making the house whistle and creak and I was woken up by the noise a few times during the night! Gabo Island had 40-50 knots!!!

The wind was still here this morning but went from South to SSW right around dawn. We went down to inspect the lake and it was obvious the tide was not really out, either from the wind and low pressure or the rain, probably both. Goodwin Sands would not be out so the plans chnaged to a sail in the entrance.

First run 40 knots peak! Second run over 42 knots peak! Yeeeharr! This place rocks!

After a few more runs the tide started making big pressure waves right at the fastest part of the course so after a few crashes I decied to give it a rest.

We waited for the tide to drop a bit and had another go. Two more runs and the water was smoother but the wind had gone back south so it was a bit too tight. Gary and I realised we were feeling pretty spent so we called it a day.

Fantastic potential here. This run is just a tad too short for good 10 sec runs but the wind was really even and strong and I could sail 50cm from the bank in deep water.

I can't wait to try out Goodwin Sands when the water level is lower.

With the way the sand moves around in the entrance and with the entrance itself moving West, I would not be surprised to see this speed strip get longer and better.
