iSonick 90L, TRX 6.3m and 31cm VMax carbon fin. Top speed in about 22-25kts of wind and I left just as the wind picked up another 5 to 10 kts (carrying an elbow injury that needs to heal!).

Felt fast today, especially on a couple of speed runs near the sand back, and in particular the deeper ones, away from the shallows given the wind angle.

Thanks for the new mast Remi, worked a treat!


Had a few close calls with kiters running upwind on port tack against the speed strip. Somewhat annoying!

Still concerned the last thing I read on Canmore is that it was not ideal for top speed records. Or has this been addressed.

So, to recap... I used a cheap android phone to record my tracks last weekend, since my GT-31 drowned.

Ultra GPS Logger for $7 logs per second and outputs to NMEA and GPX. 

As suggested, I've run the track through GPS Results.

Below is a screen shot of the results. 

Using the Doppler settings the max speed is shown as 38.4 kts, with 0.5m/s^2 acceleration, so quite reasonable.

Without Doppler the peak speed is 39kts with 1.1m/s^2 accel. 

The 'HDoP' reading of 1 indicates the horizontal (H) position reading is 'excellent'

1-2 Excellent At this confidence level, positional measurements are considered accurate enough to meet all but the most sensitive applications.

So, considering the cheapy Samsung "GT-S6310T" from Telstra running Android 4.1.2 is just $80, is about as water proof as the Canmore, proides SDOP error levels and satellite count (10 in my example), it appears as a worthwhile contender... unless I'm missing something.
