Horse Peninsula, SA, AU

Sailed a new spot today and it's good value. The is a bit of flat rock about with some little mussels. So booties are a must at low tide. Kids are digging some shell out now.  Nice and shallow all the way across the bay which is awesome for kids to have a crack as well. In the winter it should be good for the Nth as well.

Was right on the edge of overpowered and probably should have rig a bit smaller but was on a timeline for a food and wine market.

Thommen Freex 115, North Warp 7.3, 29cm Gun sails weedy and 18-25kts SSE.

First sail for the year (and the first in since July 2015 :(    ).

Headed down to Goolwa with the family so the kids could try out the new wooden boat playground.  Headed out on the 7.7 and broke the mast on the second run upwind - Bugger!.  It must have been damaged from a crash at Lake George earlier last year when I hit rocks and the head of the boom scraped the bottom when I went over the bars.  I was suprised it didnt break then and I havent used this rig since.  Started swimming back from near Rankines and then decided to roll up the sail and reduce the drag.  Headed back out on the 6.9 and was underdone but I had fun.  Not enough wind to plane out of any Gybes but I had fun gambling with gusts(and speedboats) near the Aquacaf so the kids could see what Dad does on the water.  Headed in around 5 and the wind looked to be filling in nicely but it was time to hit the road as the kids were starting to get tired after 4 hours playground.

Arrived at Lake George on Friday afternoon, set up camp and spent quite alot of time rigging my sails. Quite rusty after a year but followed the directions re luff, mast extension and boom and  soon got the hang of it. Then went to check the conditions and realised that there was no way I could even attempt to tangle with the 25 to 30 knot winds especially as there was so little water and such a long way to get out and then back in through the mud. Geoff and Chris arrived on Sat only to share the same frustation. Our resolve to stay off the water was confirmed when Jamie went out on a 3.5m rig and was flying. On Sunday however the wind dropped to a more manageable level and we all got out on the North side in the morning and had a good one and a half hour session before the conditions became unpleasant again.

Great to see you trying news spots! Cool

Was that one a bit weedy to keep the water flatter?

The big 30. I peaked early and couldn't find that extra knot. I did work out that when you hanging by your toenails the heart rate peaks at about 98%.

It wasn't super flat but with about 6-8 inches of chop it made things a bit interesting at times. And a bit of a shame its a couple of points short of a NM.

Hey Sailquik, there is no weed floating just a bit on the bottom. I used the weedy to cope with the water depth. With the SE weather pattern it doesn't allow much water to come up in the bays so its almost eternal low tides here at the moment.

Yep Sammy, gotta sneek one more into the shed soon I reckon and a 6.6 Reflex should do the trick to.

Did you have a monitor on PK? It sure doesn't help when you stop breathing in hairy sections.

Can still sail Tricky but my expense / session ratio is taking a beating.

Sorry I missed you Dave, it was fun out there with 3 or four other sailors. Might catch you down there next time...

Sure did Kimba, 98% at the peaks and about 80% when cruising comfortably. I didn't have any major catapults so I can't tell you if your heart stops or speeds up before impact.
