Another late season nor-easter is always great. Conditions were up and down with some good strong gusts but lots of big holes as well. In hindsight, probably should have used the 7m but on the positive side the water levels are good and still very warm though with daylight saving ended, the afterwork sessions are getting much shorter.

Barrack Heights, NSW, AU

Tried this spot for the first time in a NE'r heading up wind towards the entrance. Very impressed with my new carbon 21cm 40 degree carbon fin, more area and more thickness, pointed really well for its size and was very predictable in the big chop in the middle of the lake. I wasn't really happy with my sail choice so I decided to head back in for a 7.0 and more power. That was where it all ended. Slowly headed into the shallower merky water, just touched the bottom and then stepped of. Flipped my board over to check the fin and found two 15cm long, 5 cm wide gouges in the bottom of my board. Not really sure where it happened and I couldn't find any rocks nearby. Not impressed!!!

Spewin... maybe it was a floater, not the bottom. Lucky you're handy with the glass mate.

That's bad luck MT.  Mark that one as an X-files case for Mulder and Scully....the truth is out there (somewhere).

Thanks for the feedback Jetlag. If I sail there again I might wait until you're around so you can explain all that on location.

Ouch MarkFrown. I think we will have to have a Jetlag location tutorial - onsiteWink.

Bummer MT. Looking at your tracks, it seems like you entered the water about 100m east of my usual entry spot, which is as far west as you can drive on the lakeside grass. There used to be some commercial fishing boat moorings about where you went in. We used to stay clear of there because of steel stakes and tyres filled with concrete. Just west of the entry point I use there is also a submerged stone groyne wall to negotiate that goes out for about 20m in a northerly direction where there used to be a boat ramp. I tend to walk back in directly from the north to avoid these rocks. That also means I walk out around 30m from the old boat ramp before I head off on stbd tack. Hope this helps for future visits. I don't think there are any nav hazards further out.
