Good Sail on the harbour, right on the turn of the tide so harbour was pretty messy and bumpy flattened out slightly at the end.

Do you guys sail Dunedin? I was there back in October and it looked like an amazing spot to sail. It looked like a good speed strip right down the end of Otago Peninsula. Some massive runs from one side of the harbour to be had and I imagine you could do an awesome downwind slalom race...

I use to live in Dunedin it is an amazing spot for windsurfing probably one of the most reliable spots in the country, Because the harbour is so long the wind funnels and is usually 10knts more down the harbour basin (The other end). The guys down there have it so good with a club on the waters edge with all the gear stored in it that no one really bothers to go exploring. Plus the wind is so good and reliable down at the basin. Most of the sailors down there focus on slalom with marks out and course set all year round.

Downwinders are good fun there but I use to only go about as far as MacAndrew bay and smoke back from there (Mayby 5km downwind) and the harbour is narrow so you really get good a gybing :) Bigger down winders can be done but are challenging as the harbour is so long the funnel effect is huge and you would be underpowered on a 7.7m at one end of Harbour and then fighting a 5.5m at the other end.

The Slalom Nationals in Feb are worth a visit over for, good fun and lots of wind and racing

awesome Dan, thanks for the info. Your slalom scene in NZ looks to be the envy of almost the rest of the world!!
